Automatic updates fail to install

After a repair installation Automatic updates doesn't work. My computer
seems to constantly be down loading files, and I keep getting messages that
"so and so" update was not successfully installed. Checked for
spyware/virus, all clear. ???

Download the latest Windows Update Agent: (Applicable to your version of
Windows)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891
Type "Location of your file here" /wuforce in the run command and press
Enter. You don't even need to restart your PC!
For example: if your file is stored in C:\Downloads, you need to type
exactly like this:

"C:\Downloads\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce

See if this helps,
Joan

Have you looked at : Updates are not installed successfully from Windows
Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you
repair
a Windows XP installation

Ignore the title.

I think that did it. The yellow flag is gone and the CPU is finally at rest
but when I go to the update site it says I need to register so I click yes
and then it says the page can not be displayed? I don't know if I or windows
is the problem.

What is the *exact* message displayed ?

Regarding KB943144, did you install the latest Version of the Windows
Update Agent *and* register wups2.dll at a Command Prompt ?
