Audio Device Problem

I am trying to change the Hardware Acceleration on my sound device (AC97) to
the
Basic setting. However, the slider keeps reverting to the default (Full
acceleration) option. How do I change the default acceleration to Basic, and
make it stay?
 
Did you click on Apply, Ok after changing the Slider?

Yes, but after a few minutes it changes back to Full acceleration.
