How do I find a printer on my local network?
I have assigned the printer (in the printer menu) a IP numnber (i.e.
192.168.1.10)
And I can therfore ping it, but when I try to install it in XP (or W98) I
can't find it!

It does not have an assigned workgroup name but I do not know if I need one
or how to assign one.
When I try to install it as a network printer all I can see is the Workgroup
and all the other computers connected to the network, but NOT the printer!?

It is connected through a router (Netgear WGT634U), could that cause a
problem?
Any help will be appreciated

Did you install the drivers on your computers first? Usually you need to
do this. Since you didn't tell us the make/model of the printer, that's
about all I can suggest.

It depends on the printer installation routine whether or not you need
to just install the drivers and then go to Add Printer/Local Printer/New
Port - TCP/IP or if the install will search for the printer on the
network itself.

Don't try to install it as a network printer unless it is physically
connected to another computer that's acting as a print server.

Add the printer as a Local Printer; creating a new "Standard TCP/IP"
port for it first, using the IP addresss you've assigned to it.
