ATI drivers

Have an Advent 7096 laptop with integrated ATI Radeon Express 200M graphics,
XP Media Center with all updates.
Installed these newer drivers:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/integrated-xp
During install was informed I needed NET Framework 2 which I downloaded and
installed after the graphics drivers.
I now have something called Catalyst Control Centre in my Programs list. I
have no idea what this is because I get an error trying to open it.

Also I have laptop connected to large screen LCD TV via 15 pin D-Sub. All I
am getting on the TV screen is the desktop wallpaper, no icons, taskbar or
anything else.
ATI driver package also installed something called Steam. Googling it seems
this has something to do with gaming which I have no interest in.
Should I have installed NET Framework before the drivers?
Should I just go back to the old drivers?
All I want to do is see on the TV screen what's on the laptop screen.
Any advice appreciated, the laptop manual says nothing about multiple
displays and couldn't find a manual for the graphics on ATI site.

Control Center is useful in configuring and controlling your display properties.

you need to use Control Center to enable the 2nd video output. and adjust the setting for what the tv needs,

do not believe it installed steam, just links to activate it if you widh.

does not appear in my add/remove programs lsit.

Don't know if you are aware but it is always a good idea to install GPU
driver updates from the manufacturers site and not from any other source -
especially not Microsoft's.
Ati have a very precise and detailed download regime and if you get any
problems they have a good 'ticket' system for troubleshooting.
Well, they did when I last had an ATi GPU - three years ago.
Plus the Cat part has an instant feedback if that causes a problem.
In addition, did you by any chance get an Ati driver update offered for PCI
Express card - that has caused problems in that you cannot go back to
previous, or uninstall what you got? especially to those who allow updates
to dl/install auto.

Thanks Mikey and Antioch for the replies.
Got it working by installing the display drivers and the Catalyst Control
Centre separately.
It must have been the other stuff in the package causing the problem.
The display on a 37" LCD is amazing and will be great for karaoke!

..NET 2 was a prerequisite... it needed to be on the computer before the ATI
driver installation. Steam was an optional install that came with the
drivers... supposedly there are free games on offer with it but I never got
them. You might not see the option to not install Steam if you chose
"express" installation. As was already mentioned, Catalyst Control Center
is where you do all of the extended settings and tweaks for your ATI
graphics adapter. ... but selecting the 2nd output for the TV can be done in
the regular Windows Display settings. Both Clone mode and Extended display
mode are enabled here as well.

BTW, if you do run 2 displays, in the Display -Settings window you see a
picture of 2 screens. You can drag either of them to a different location to
place them relative to the actual positions of your real displays. Helps a
lot when moving the mouse cursor from one display to the other. Clicking on
one or the other image also enables the resolution/color settings for that
monitor or TV and options for whether it should show an extended desktop or
a clone of the main desktop.
