From the article:

"While having a Linux-based operating system on the Eee has not proven to be
much of a detriment, it appears that the demand for Windows is simply too
high to ignore."

and

"...Asustek's move to effectively switch the Eee over to a Windows-based
unit will counteract much of the progress the Eee has made in dispelling the
collective apprehension toward the (Linux-derived) OS."

It appears the 1% Linux desktop penetration isn't going to get larger
anytime soon...

When companies realize that Linux is a losing product, they will come to
their senses and drop it like a female dropping Alias!

It isn't even 1% yet.

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=10

and

http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2008/February/os.php

Of course Linux Lusers dismiss these numbers with hand waving excuses like
"but all Linux users change their settings to appear as Windows so web sites
will render correctly" and other such drivel.

It is interesting to note that Mac users used to dismiss these numbers also,
that is until Mac share started rising. Now these numbers are proudly
posted monthly in the Mac forums, as evidence of the Mac's growing user
base!

Come to think of it, you are right. No human female would be caught dead
anywhere near Alias. It must be a Sheep.

Yea I do find this interesting seeing how XP is supposed to no longer be
sold soon. Does this mean MS will continue to sell XP? It has to or else
this wouldn't make sense or be possible.

I'm not surprised to see a demand for windows on those PC's and really it
isn't replacing the linux version either. They are just introducing an
additional model with WinXP on it. Nothing wrong with that.

What I find interesting is not that they are adding a model with Windows
but that it *is* XP. What does this say about Vista then? =)

EEEPc is a cheap, simple, underpowered machine. It needs a simple under

Well, there's rounding. And statistical clustering.

As I have previously noted, that is not true. I run Ubuntu on several
machines - I also run Gentoo Linux and Mandriva Linux and Fedora Linux. I
have also recently installed the WIN2008 evaluation system and we still
have one home PC capable of (legally) booting xp.

OEMs can support it if they want.

It says the eee doesn't have enough disk space.

I have quite a bit of fun, actually. Since I retired, I work on what I
want to work on. Do a few non-profit web sites, admin public access
computers at the local library, hike, snowshoe, bicycle and fish when I
feel like it, etc.

It was supposed to be a joke centered around your "legally" dropped into the
sentence. Sorry you missed it. :-)

Cheers.
