1] I came across a few utilities and was told by many that these things are not worth the effort like "Registry cleaner and Ram Booster" e.t.c, is this true?

2] Seeing that I use a lot of high powered software and sometimes my pc freezes up, I would like to be able to monitor my CPU, Ram usage e.t.c, this looked like something I could use

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23831,findid,46974,00.asp

but I was told that this utility will "slow" down my pc, is this true? Is it worth it? If not, is there anything anyone can recommend please? Thanks.

Regcleaner and ram booster do no good. I wouldn't advise using them.
I use coolmon myself and recommend it for monitoring resources.

Doesn't slow it down at all. I wouldn't even know it was running if I didn't have the stats and monitor visible on the desktop.

I like MaxMem from Analog-X. I'd suggest people with 256 megs of ram or less to use it, and ALWAYS use it in MANUAL not auto.

Actually, I would recommend ALOT of the analog-X utilitys.

As for the programs from PC WORLD...Ehh, no thanks... PC world means well, but they tend to recommend programs which do VERY VERY little for you in terms of REAL performance enhancements, and more often then not, its a program that loads at startup, and is more annoying if anything.

Appreciate it Bob, will give the Coolmon a try.

Phreakwars, appreciate the link, I especially liked the "Say it" utility and tried it out, a little "too" Robotic for my taste, I would like to have one that sounds more "human" if possible, would you happen to know of any please? Thanks.

Getting back to Coolmon Bob, I have joined their forum and will attempt to design my own skin, thanks for the referral!
