The IDC just released its predictions for fourth quarter 2014 PC shipments, and things are looking good for Apple. Overall, the IDC shows that the tech giant maintained its 5th place position, but showed steady growth by shipping a total of 5.75 million units and growing 18.9 percent year-over-year.
As far as domestic shipments are concerned, Apple managed to hold onto its third-place standing, right behind HP and Dell. Its Mac shipments grew 18.1 percent year-over-year with a total of 2.24 million units shipped in the United States.
These numbers, if correct, are a sizable jump over Apple's previous quarter, which saw the company shipping 4.98 million units worldwide and growing 8.9 percent year-over-year.
The fourth quarter 2014 numbers could also represent a record quarter for Apple. 9to5Mac writes:
As Ben Bajarin notes, this 5.75 million number (if accurate) would mean that the 2014 holiday quarter is Apple's best all-time quarter for Mac sales.
