The Keyboard on my Dell laptop broke. Dell says it is the motherboard and a
replacement keyboard will not help. So I am using an external Keyboard.

Only problem is: There is no fn button on that, and I have no way to adjust
the screen brightness!

Any idea?

What did Dell say? The FN key isnt XP related.

I,ve changed a dell laptop's keyboard before...the dell website will give
you the part number and even instructions.
with the part number you can do a google to find the best price.......mine
came from across the country at 1/2 the price that dell
wanted.............good luck

If you don't want to change it really frequently the display management from
your video card company will usually have a brightness that works well. Intel
/ ATI for sure.

Since it works with an external keyboard you've the mobo must be ok.

I don;t think there is a way to remap the fn key however...so your present
kb probably cannot handle that function
