Getting very jagged here...
a) Microsoft has scheduled the execution of XP before, only to give a stay of execution for one reason or another (Vista blew chunks). This one’s getting close...any chance of MS pulling it back again, or is the toxic drip definitely beginning at 4.8.2014 12:01am?
b) as the execution nears, will performance degrade, as they pull out the isolinear chips out one by one (Daisy, daisy...), or should everything work normally up to the 8th of April? The reason I ask is that since yesterday, almost every single webpage never completes loading. Sometimes it completes loading, but hangs (blue/green bar in URL box all the way to the right, full page (presumably) is viewable and usable, but green circle spins constantly). But more and more the blue/green bar is not getting all the way across, the green circle continues to spin, a majority of the page is not loaded, and what is visible is not usable (selectable). Especially if I've got 2 or more tabs open (which has never been an issue before).
c) are we to trust a Microsoft site that has spelling errors (‘What is Windows XP end of support?’)? Not being snarky or uptight-retentive, but I’ve always gone on yellow alert when I see things that look off, for security purposes. But on a Microsoft page? Aren’t they supposed to be like the gold standard or something? Is my concern valid, or does no one at Microsoft care enough anymore to do a spell check, especially when writing articles about killing XP? Ok, maybe I’m being a little bit snarky...but wait...it gets better...
d) ...Hey, Microsoft...got enough money? I get the whole old tech/new tech thing, I really do. But do you ever stop to consider that those that have old computers have them because they cannot afford new ones, no matter how much they’ve come down in price? And they rely on their computers for internets access for job seeking and/or small business operations, trying to do what they can to feed their families AND save enough for a new computer system? Look, you guys did this. You’re responsible for this. You’ve changed the world in a very short period of time to the point it is nearly impossible to live offline. I mean, I know this is a stretch, but you’re coming off like the drug dealer that’s out to generate business down the road. You give us a taste, show us what it’s like, then get us hooked on it. Once we can’t live without it, you start giving us the good stuff...but we gotta pay for the good stuff. I guess it depends on your business model and the nature of your moral and ethical culture.
Do you want the world’s population to live in a Windows world? To have unfettered access to the internets, 24/7 support for life (that comes as a part of being a member of the Windows family, without any additional costs for updates/upgrades), and making Microsoft the preferred solution for all of the world’s needs?
Or do you just want to get as much money as possible out of the consumer’s pockets and into yours as quickly as possible? If that’s the case, well...you’d be making your Master proud...
...if your Master is the iPhone.
