Windows 2000 After Logon system returns to Logon

For the last few days when I logon to our windows 2000 server the system will
start the login process by showing loading personal settings then show saving
settings and return to the logon screen. Anyone have any idea why this
happends?

This usually happens when the file userinit.exe is not in the
location where Windows expects it.
 
Possibly the drive permissions were recently altered or the drive letter has
changed.
