I had to restore my laptop to it's orignal and when I restarted it and ran
the updates, my computer has been sitting for the last 2 hours 'shutting
down'. It took a long time to install the updates, but is this normal? Is
there anything I can do?
thanks! Susan

Unfortunately sometimes yes. It should at least be flashing periodic
messages about the status and warning you not to power down manually...

Pay close attention to the Turn Off button in the Shutdown prompt
the next time you use it. If it is overlaid with an update icon you may be
in for a long wait before your machine powers down. If want to power
off the machine immediately and have the updates done some other time
you at least will have the option of using the Restart button and powering
off manually during the reboot sequence.
