One last question for the night: I went to the Acronis site and read the
specs for True Image 11 Home--which say that True Image supports Windows XP
SP2. There's no mention of SP3, which is what I have. Has anyone using this
program encountered any conflicts with SP3?

Thank you!

A wee look here may ease your concern a bit, Jo-Anne. :-)
Good luck.

Thank you! It looks like there's no inherent problem to date. Good to know
too that I could be prompted for name and password whether I have them or
not.

Hi Jo-Anne, I recently used Acronis and never had a problem with SP3 installed.

Hello,
Using Version 9, for image and clone. Have no problem with WindowsXPHome SP3.
TI v10 and v11 should provide good support for WindowsXP SP3.
take care.

We're still running TI versions 8 and 9, from times when
SP3 was presumably still a gleam in Bill's eye, and we
have no problems under SP3.

(We're very conservative about new versions of backup
software. Unworked-out bugs are unacceptable in a
way that doesn't apply to other programs. Backup and
recovery _has_ to work when needed. And then ...
conservatism segues into inertia about updating. ) )

Thank you! This is very helpful!

I've noticed that TI 9 and 10 are still being sold--at least at Amazon.

If you're using XP, why not use the latest, most up to date version (ver
11), especially went venturing in to SP3 territory? Presumably the bugs
are out by now. :-)
(If you were using Win98SE, you couldn't. But you're not).

Not only that... but those older versions are selling for MORE than
ver. 11 at Amazon. Old versions: $50. Ver. 11: $40.

Newegg is the cheapest: $25 for ver 11 with free 3-day shipping.

FWIW, I have Acronis True Image 7 which I use in XP SP2 and now SP3. Works
fine including system restore and see no reason to upgrade.

That was the version I started with... can't even remember why I began
upgrading it.

Used Norton Ghost for years. Stopped with ver 2002. Tried the
registered versions of Terabyte's Image for Windows and Image for DOS
for about a year (got tired of what seemed like bi-weekly patches)
then picked up Acronis.

I've never looked back.
