I accidentely downloaded a 64 bit update (Windows6.0-KB943899-v2-x64) and I'm
on a 32 bit version. Now ever time i restart my computer or browser (I can't
figure out which one triggers it) I get a desktop icon that appears for this
update for a "Microsoft Update Standalone Package". And when i click it, it
of course says "this update isn't for this computer." But no matter how many
times I delete it, it still keeps coming back. I don't know what to do to get
rid of it. Help?

I can't reproduce this. Can you give this a shot? Run the windowsupdate
reset tool and reboot:

Tried it, but it still comes up. It's definitely when I start my browser that
it appears on the desktop. I will delete it, then restart my computer and
think that it's gone because it still isn't on the anymore... but when I
start Firefox, it pops back on there.

Exactly where on the HD did you save the file?

I believe I download everything to the desktop. Is that what you mean?

I was one of these updates that says you have to be running "genuine
Microsoft Windows" and you need to validate with a code.

C:\documents and settings\name of user\desktop

If the full file there or is it just a shortcut that you're deleteing?

After you delete it, create a new dummy version of the file (a text file
with the same name) and then get properties, go to the security tab and
explicitly deny access to all the users listed (make sure system is one of
them).
Then see if we get an error from a particular process that it can't write
the file.
If we need more detail we can try process Monitor from sysinternals.com (a
microsoft site)
