4 GB ram got detected

Hi All

yesterday i took new computer with below configuration


Hardware is:


Intel dg 33 fbMotherboard
p4 core2 deo 2.66 ghzprocessor
4 GB Ram
Quadro fx 1500 256 mb
160 gb sata2 hdd

but my 4 GB ram got detected as 3.25 GB only


I am running it on Windows XP
even in BIOS its showing the 4 gb


please provide solution to rectify this problem so that i can utilize
my full ram

You already are. Some of the 4 gig is used by other cards. How much
depends on what you have in the system. Check out the MS Knowledgebase.

You got what you are going to get: 3.25 GB usable by the OS out of 4 GB.
This is a known restriction of the 32-bit Winduhs OS (and the Intel
architecture), caused by the fact that some of the 32-bit address space
is used to address non-RAM locations, such as I/O registers.

Not an accurate answer.

It is not the extra memory itself that is used by the other cards. It is
the memory addressing range that is used. Thus the memory above 3.25 Gb is
not available to the operating system because the address is used by
something else. 3.25 Gb available is about the average (it varies typically
between 3.1 and 3.5 Gb).

Did it ever occur to you that this question may have been asked before in
this group? Do a google search of this group and find 366 answers to your
question.
 
I believe the 32bit version of XP will only use 3Gbyte. Even though the bios
can see the full 4Gbyte I think the config you have is the best you will
get.
