320GB Western Digital Hard Drive not recognized in XP

Hello-

I bought two identical 320GB WD HD.
My operating system was on a separate hard drive. These 320GB HD's
were used only for storage.

Then, my OS had to be reinstalled a few months ago. After I
reinstalled my OS (WinXP Pro) I tried connecting my two WD HD's but
they were not detected by my operating system as FULL hard drives. It
kept saying that the space on them was "Unallocated".
I downloaded Data Lifeguard Tools and followed instructions to install
ONE of my hard drives and it worked fine but i lost all of my data
because it FORMATTED IT.

Luckily I didn't do it on both of my 320GB HDs so I still have one
more hard drive that still has my files on it but I am afraid to run
the Data Lifeguard Tools because I don't want to format it. I
- WinXP Disk Manager recognizes all three of my HDs.
- The 80GB one is deemed "Healthy"
- 1st 320GB one is also deemed "Healthy" because I formatted it with
Data Lifeguard Tools, - - And the 2nd 320GB one is deemed
"Unallocated" in the Disk Manager even though it has more than 200GB
worth of data that i've been saving on it for years (pictures, videos
etc...)

The HD's are recognized by both, the BIOS, and the OS but for some
reason once I re imaged my computer I am NOT able to view what is
INSIDE the hard drive.

I did not change anything between the re imaging. My operating system
stayed the same, and my hard drives were fine before the re image.

Anybody knows how to make my HD readable? Western Digital was not
helpful with this...

First I would try running a program that can analyze and repair
partitions.

If that does not fix the problem, run a file recovery program.

in my bios i had to set drive type to LARGE insted of LBA
second thing, maybe they were in RAID config ? check bios config and
buildin raid controller bios if you hat such

You may have to take ownership of the drive and folders because you
reinstalled XP. XP recognises them as belonging to an identity that no
longer exists on your PC since you reintalled the OS (ie. your previous
identity is different from your current identity in XP). Using the same
log-on name makes no difference.
