Hello all:

We currently have two 2000 Server boxes and will be getting a 2003 x64 soon.
I understand that to join the new box to the domain I will need to run
adprep. However, is it sufficient to run the adprep from the 32-bit media,
as the adprep available o the the x64 CD will obviously only run on a 64-bit
machine/OS.

The only guide I could find implied that what was necessary for the joining
of this new computer is to run adprep /forestprep then adprep /domainprep.

Is this all that is necessary?

Are there any better how tos on this issue?

Thanks.

Hello,

You should have posted on the active_directory forum. This question has
already been answered a lot of time...

Do you plan to make this new server a DC ? If not ,you do not need to extend
the schema.
IF you plan to make it a DC:
Download a 32 Bits edition to extend the schema/domain. Be sure to use the
good version (R2 if your new server will be R2).

Thanks for the response.

Yes, we plan on making the new server a DC. When we purchased SA, it came
with the 32-bit 2k3 R2 so I suppose we will use this for extending the schema.

Thanks a bunch.

I will try to post in the correct forum next time.
