  1. Is this XP disk the one that came with the PC? Is it the restore disk? If so, then yes, a working CDROM will reinstall everything like the day you took it out of the box.
  2. You can still turn off the MS Firewall or course ... right? You mean it just defaults to on?
  3. Why wouldn't it help? Your partition isn't your Operating System.
  4. The site looks much better ... much more style. Nice work!
  5. I have a drive in my file server that, a few weeks ago, wouldn't let me copy and paste off of the drive. I was getting a "Cyclic Redundancy Check" error or something. I bet this means the same thing? Drive is almost done?

I don't see "cache thumbs" in my Advanced Options, but I cleared out the Temporary Internet Files and I check the option to Check For New Versions of Page = Every Visit. It is still happening for another new image I sent up today. I even checked on a browser on a different computer that never went to the website, and the same thing is happening.
  7. On old hardware, there are sometimes annoyances with installing Win2000. For instance, one old MoBo I had I couldn't install Win2000 unless the CD and the HDD were on one IDE cable. Otherwise, Win2000 install said there are no HDDs detected.

I did delete it last night, and uploaded the new one. It still showed the old one - until this morning. Now it shows the right one. I even FTPed the file back to my PC last night and it was correct...the server just showed the old one for a while. It must be some kind of cache on the server? I would like to know how to "force" the use of the new file right away. I'll search the Net a bit and post any findings.

Is it normal for IIS to not immediately recognize new versions of a web page that I just FTPed up to it? The index.HTML page is made up of many .GIFs (yuck). One .GIF I replaced, but the server still serves up the old one. I even deleted the file off the server, and resent up the new .GIF ... but it still shows the old one!!!
  10. Well, I had a first-hand chance to try it out, because my HDD completely died last weekend. Well, needless to say, PowerQuest software is not the best thing for rapid recovery - even at home. The PowerQuest Boot CD didn't recognize my NIC so I couldn't get to the images on my file server. Symantec (who bought PQ) had crap for help on their "FAQs." And I wasn't about to pay $30 to call them. They STILL haven't responded to my support e-mail. Idiots even wanted the PowerQuest utility to create a partition info file for the HDD or the e-mail wouldn't fo through - but the drive is dead!!! So, I copied the image onto a second HDD, and ran the restore from the local machine. Seemed to work, but it wouldn't boot up. Not only that, the new drive was 120GB and DriveImage created a 60GB image (size of old drive.) It was so nice that the PQ Boot CD grayed out the check box to use the whole drive space. In summary, what a piece of crap software and support from Symantec. $70 for PC peace of mind - instead I got a $70 piece of ca-ca.
  11. Both my sound card and video card are using IRQ16. The problem is that I am getting horrendous framerates in the game Battlefield 1942 when I am running around on the ground. I get like 3-10 FPS!!! The game is very video and sound intensive, and I do not suffer this FPS lag when out alone in the distance or in the air in a plane. Probably due to much less sound processing and video processing than being up close face to face with infantry and tanks. I have an Athlon XP 2400+, Asus A7V8X MoBo, and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, with a GB of PC2100, with SB Live! 5.1. So I should no way no how be dropping to 3-10 FPS in the action. Others have mentioned checking if the IRQ of the vid and sound are the same, which they are. I will try moving around the sound card and see if that helps.
  12. Shouldn't this one be a no-brainer for you guys :( :)
  13. Hi all. I originally posted my question here: http://www.ecgnetwork.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=94175#post94175 Here is a summary (my vid and sound card are both using IRQ 16) I need help successfully assigning the PCI slot with the sound card to an open IRQ (like 13). :)
  14. I am running Windows XP with the Service Pack and auto-update so I have the latest XP system stuff. When ever I try to stream video off the Net with Windows Media Player, it gives me the error window with "Send report to Microsoft." WMP version is 8.00.00.4487. Any video files that I play off my HDD work fine. WMP opens and plays when I double-click the file. I do run Kerio Personal Firewall, made rules to allow, and even tried to stream by *gasp* turning the firewall off, with no success.
  15. Bob, For Windows 2003 Server's IIS, can I have multiple ASP applications for one web site? We are going to be doing web surveys on-line, and I figured the best way to control the ability to enter and respond in the survey is to have each survey a separate web application. Also, would you suggest that I keep the surveys in another web site instance on the server separate from our regular web site? If so, is that where I can change fakettp://www.oursite.com to surveys.oursite.com (sub-domain?)
