  1. Hi, Thanks for the reply. I haven't uninstalled it yet as when I do it says no other AD DC's can be found on the domain, whereas various MMC windows on the machine(s) suggest otherwise, that both old and new servers are AD DC's. Is this normal? We had an interesting situation this morning where our old server crashed over night, and whilst logging in to the domain and internet access was achievable some applications connected explicitly to the new server were inaccessible before powering up the old server. Also checking the AD status in the MMC window on the new server whilst the old was off resulted in a "cannot find the domain" error, despite both being DC's? It's odd as the white server seems to still be "god" despite not being the operations master etc for anything! Where should I be looking especially to ensure there is no sites etc connecting to the old server? Cheers.
  2. Hi, I have 2 servers, both are domain controllers and Active Directory Domain controllers. I have transferred all the FSMO roles to the "new" server and to my knowledge the "old" server now does very little. However, when switching the "old" server off all the clients become incredibly slow pretty much unusable. The "new" server is the DNS, DHCP and GC server as well as the operations master for everything, however the "old" server still seems to have some link with the Active Directory. What can I do to break this dependancy? Cheers.
  3. Hi, Thanks, I had a stray forwarder, this is now fixed. Many thanks.
  4. Hi there, Many thanks for your reply, I have just tried this and the client I used is now super-fast as before and responding instantly. What is my problem and how do I fix it? Many thanks! Cheers.
  5. Hi, I've recently installed a vanilla version of Server 2008 to take over from our old SBS 2003 server which is close to death. Everything seems to have migrated well and the new 2008 box is running as a DNS server and a DHCP whilst clients are able to log on and off and access the internet as usual, IP's are also being issued successfully. There is one problem, browsing the internet is very slow going, and I think it's DNS related. When typing in the URL to ANY website, no matter the site, the browser (multiple browsers on multiple platforms) hang for around 5-6 seconds before loading the page instantly. It's very odd as it's not like it's making any progress then it's 100%. The internet here is relatively quick so handles web browsing without a problem, also download speeds are completely unaffected and are up to speed. It's just the browsing on any client machine running any OS, any browser is met with a 5-6 second delay before the website loads, it's getting quite annoying! When I did the "migration" the DNS on the 2008 box seemed to somehow populate with the settings as per the 2003 box without me doing anything, is it possible it's looking to the old 2003 box for "something", not finding it and then loading, hence the delay? Can anyone offer any advice and fast, I'm getting linched by the other members of staff here!! Cheers.
