  1. Thank you Do you know whether AD is a separate installation or is it installed together with the WinServer software.
  2. Very late reply but thank you for your help.:) I have now enabled the "reply notification" option.
  3. Hi everyone I am thinking to get a server and install Win2008 R2 Enterprise edition. My plan is to create 4 virtual machines. The first one is going to be the active directory the second VM is going to be an SQL server the third VM is going to be sharepoint and the fourth VM maybe a print server, not sure yet. I am no expert with Windows and I just want to ask whether this setup can cause any sort of problems because everything are hosted by virtual machines. Also when you install Win2008 R2 does that include Actice directory or AD is a separate installation? Many thanks goude
  4. Greek. I am looking into getting an 8core server and split it into 4 virtual machines using Hyper-V. Citrix was considered but I've heard that VM's crash for no reason quite regularly so I thought not to bother with it. One is going to run Windows server 2008 One will be for Sharepoint One for SQL And the fourth one maybe a print server. Dealing mainly with Linux OS, I have quite a lot of learning to do before and after setting this server up. :wallbash: and also that is the reason I registered with this forum because I will be needing help  If you have any books to recommend, please let me know. I am thinking to get "Mastering Active Directory 2008" because active directory is the main reason we are getting a windows server 2008.
  5. Thanks a lot ICTCity. I understand now. Having a non-english mother-tongue, I got confused with Microsoft's description on their website.
  6. Hello everyone Could anyone please help me understand the difference between Hyper-V and SCVMM? I am the systems engineer of a small college and being mainly a Linux environment, windows user profiles are becoming a problem. For that reason we are planning to get a Windows Server that will run 4 virtual machines. VM1= for Windows Server 2008 VM2= for an SQL Server VM3= for Sharepoint VM4= maybe a print server In order to manage these VMs I was looking at Microsoft's Hyper-V and SCVMM but I find it difficult to understand the difference. Could you please advise on what would be best for my case? Many thanks
