  1. You might want to try and reset the bios setting to default. I have this happen intermitently with one of my computers. For some reason during post my cdrw isn't detected. The computer will take 15 minutes or longer to start. I had to flash to an older bios for the board to fix it. By setting bios to default value the bios will give you an f2 stop error and let you know what is causing the problem.
  2. You might want to stop by http://visualbasicforum.com to get help with this.
  3. Did you set the jumpers on the motherboard so that you can set the multiplier? That could be the reason some options are not available. Try setting the multiplier at 11.5 and fsb at 166. You might need a bios update to eneable all the settings. One other thing you could try is to let the bios detect cpu speed automatically.
  4. Put one stick in at a time and see if it boots. It could be one of the sticks in not compatible with the board. If it boots with each stick then head into bios and set the latency settings to spec according to the ram specs which are on the sticker.
  5. I heard good things being said of Hitachi 15 IN LCDs. They are cheat too.
  6. Yes you can turn it off. It is turned on by default ater install.
  7. It works right. I just tested it and the only new postwas the last one I made.
  8. I think what happened is it grabbed all the news posts posted by the bot. They were probably new since the last time you were here. It runs every 4 hours.
  9. The ad placement will change. I just put them there temporarily. They will move to the the sidebar on forum home.
  10. I did a major upgrade to the site. I bought a skin and modified a bit to get the look just right. There are still a few tweaks to do to it, but, for the most part it's done. I also redid the frontpage and removed virtuanews and replaced it with vbadvanced homepage. The site is now controlled fully by vbulletin. One set of templates to edit. I added a rss news feed hack and all I have to do now is set up users and feeds to post news. This makes my job easier since everything will be done automatically. Tell me what you think.
  11. The last box I built was a Shuttle XPC SB61G2 barebones. It has eveything you listed above except for monitor andvideo card and the processor is a 3.2Ghz@800Mhz. It has one WD 200 Gig HD. Total cost was $859 Add in vid card, extra hd and monitor and it would be about $1400 or more.
  12. Here are a couple I found: http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=447 http://www.ranish.com/part/ Not free but has a free trial: http://kb.paragon.ag/paragon/templ/169.jsp?catId=3283
  13. Had some electrical work done in the house and has to shutdown the network a few times while it was being done.
  14. It's configurable. If a program tries to access the internet it will prompt you to ask for permissions. It has really come a long way.
  15. It's a bug I introduced when I fixed the counter. It didn't work at all at one time and now it looks like it works too good.
  16. I'll defer this one to my son. I'm happy with my onboard 5.1 sound. I'm sure he'll have some tips on what to get.
  17. It needs to be formatted. If you are running XP go to Start > Administartive Tools > Computer Management Click disk management. Your HD will show there. Right click and select format. Once the format is complete you will be able to use the disk.
  18. This very well could be a problem with the motherboard chipset. Does the computer giving you the problem have a Via chipset?
  19. Heathkits. I know them well. Built a few Ham receivers and transmitters in my younger days. Part of the learning experience when I was studying to get my Amatuer Radio and class A licenses. Welcome to the forum.
  20. Intel chipsets are better than SIS. Most new motherboards now have gig ethernet builtin so go for that.
  21. He is putting them on seperate partitions so won't have a problem with them installing in the same dir.
  22. The motherboard itself doesn't limit the amount of add on components you can add. Off course you can only add the components if you have the slots, so in that regard I guess the motherboard does limit you some. The power supply is the main factor dictate that. I like the Intel i875 based boards. They can take p4 533Mhz and 800Mhz processors. Most of them have sound builtin and it is quality sound at that. You should go with 800Mhz. In fact I don't think there is a 3.2Ghz 533Mhz processor. The socket for P4s is socket 478. Everything you listed above can be run on the i875.
  23. Install 98 first into C or the first partition. Then install XP. XP will take care of adding 98 to the boot loader. You'll have an option at boot to switch from 98 or XP.
  24. I see that now in your original post. My mistake for missing that. This could be a heat issue, but, I highly doubt that it is heat related. The old p2s don't get hot. It could be a power issue. Have you upgraded the video card lately? If you did is this when the problem started?
  25. Check under Performance. What OS are you using?
