Does IIS FTP fail a lot?
Windows FTP doesn't handle passv mode very well. If you sre trying to send files trough a firewalled box with only port 21 open then you might have problems. Better to use an ftp client rather than built in ftp of XP.

Editing files from CD-RW?
With XP you can copy files to a cd without any burning software. XP uses a modified version of InCD. The procedure is the same as copying files from hd to hd. As far as editing them from cd you would have to use a rewritable disk. I do this often. I frequently copy my documents and program folder to cd. If I ever have to format and re-install XP I can copy my stuff back and rerun the programs setup. This lets me keep my settings in each program and lets me keep all documents.

Box won't boot ? ASUS DUAL MB PIII, P2B-DS
If the cpu are not dual capable the system would still boot. Only one cpu would be seen and used. Take everything out except for vid card one stick of ram and cpu. Try to boot. It could be one of the sticks of ram is bad. If that doesn't work try a pci vid card. Could be the agp slot is dead. If you have access to a single cpu motherboard then try booting it with the cpu you have. It is possible that one or both are dead.

Box won't boot ? ASUS DUAL MB PIII, P2B-DS
I had the same motherboard and had the same problem. There is a jumper to clear cmos. Set the pins like you would to clear cmos, if I remember it was pins 2-3. Boot the box with the pins in that position. It should boot. As soon as it shows the cpu type and memory info move the pins back to normal position. There seems to be a quirk with some of those boards that cause the problem. Once you boot it by doing this it should work normal.

HELP!!! TCP/IP XP issues
This is puzzling. You've done everything you can do and still doesn't work. About the only thing that you haven't tried that I would suggest is to take both nics out of the box and reboot. Make sure both are no longer present in device manager and then shutdown, reinstall and restart. Another thing I find odd is this. Mine says Windows IP Configuration on my XP pro box. Was this an upgraded box from 2000 to XP? If it was you might want to do a clean install. Some remnants of 2000 might be causing the problem.

HELP!!! TCP/IP XP issues
OK. Back to original problem. You can't get an IP from the dhcp server. Have you verified that the dhcp server doesn't have a problem? Are other boxes able to get an IP? Is there anyway you can get an IP assigned to you so that you can change tcp/ip configuration?

My computer has an aneurysm - loads of errors in XP
sysdata.xml is what is sent to MS when software or hardware crashes or bluescreens. This could be a problem with the hd. Have you run chkdsk? Load Maxtors power tools and run the diagnostics. You very well could have a bad drive.

HELP!!! TCP/IP XP issues
Sounds like a hardware issue. Open device manager and see if the nic is listed or if there is any device that is unrecognized. If the nic is there click properties and see if it is working. If it is there and a device cannot start error then this is a driver issue or conflicting irq issue.

Folder can't be deleted..... Ive tried everything!!
Unwise is a program to capture, print or save the current window. You probably can't remove it because the program is running and using it. One thing you might want to do is scan for adware or spyware That file is also associated some adware programs.

Program executables just won't start
Are you getting an errors? Could be just missing dlls, which would give an error, or local security policy doesn't allow users to run or install exes. Have you tried as admin or as a user that has admin rights?

Hard drive letters keep changing.
You could try assigning your cdrom drive to z. That way the new drives would be seen starting at last internal drive letter. Could be that cdrom designation is messing things up. I can disconnect my external USB drives, change drives in the enclosure and hook it back up and the drive letters remain the same. Has to be either cdrom or if you have any other drives causing the problem.

Screen blanks - PC reboots when connecting to Broadband Internet
Re-install the drivers for the modem. USB modem drivers are buggy. You might want to try an older version. Sometimes newer drivers aren't better.

Lost Connection
Try to access a site by IP. If you can get a site to load by IP then your ISPs dns server is the problem. Change that and you should be ok.

need help with hard drive poblem
You more than likely need to install EZ-Bios. You can download it from Western Digital or Maxtors site. It allows older motherboards that don't support drives larger than 2 gigs to be able to use larger drives. Before you use EZ-Bios check to see if there is an updated bios available for the motherboard.
