The error reads 'could not access windows installer', I have tried msiexec but still no joy, its as if windows installer has been deleted from the pc and when i try to download from the microsoft website it jus says 'this update is not for you system'. Something in my system keeps turning off Windows Defender.
Something in my system keeps turning off Windows Defender every once in a while, and I have to keep turning it back on. I am running Windows XP, and the security programs I am using are Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Lavasoft Ad-Aware. I normally have them all running at the same time, and with Spybot SD also have Resident "SD Helper" and "Tea Timer" active. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? View this thread

Old activation code
My Mom purchased an activation code for Office Professional Plus 2010 back in January of 2011. I just realized that she has been using Open Office and thinking she was using MS Office all this time. When I tried to activate, I was told the code was no good. Can I get a new code, or reactivate the old code? Thank you, Erick View this thread

Signature assignment resetting
Hi, I have a query about Outlook 2010, to help resolve an issue with a users signatures. This particular user has 2 exchange accounts in their Outlook, one of which is shared with a user on another computer (The user with the 2 accounts, has to type in the credentials of the other user to gain access when outlook opens). The email and most things are running fine. When one user deletes a mail, it syncs with the other computer, and it disappears from there etc. The problem I'm experiencing is with the signatures. There are signatures setup for both accounts on the computer with both accounts, and each email has both standard and _reply signatures. If the user creates an email with account 1 selected, it applies signature 1, and if created with account 2, it applies signature 2. If the user closes outlook, and reopens it during the same session, it continues to work ok. The problem is, when they logoff/restart and logon again, it forgets the configuration, and unless manually set again, if a new email is created using account 2, it applies signature 1. I believe this is being caused by a logon script to which we currently have no access to. I'm wondering if outlook stores this setting in the registry or something? If so, I'm hoping to configure this users outlook so it works properly, and then export that reg key and have it run on the machine after the logon scripts are processed. I'm just not sure where to look if it is stored there. If it's not stored there, any suggestions on what I might be able to do? I looked in to using prf files perhaps, but then found out that we don't have any installation files for our Office 2010, as we have been provided with a MOE image from state level that has office pre-installed/configured, so I'm not sure I can run the OCT to make the prf even if I wanted to. The machine it's running on is Windows 7 32bit Enterprise edition btw. Any help would be greatly appreciated. View this thread

Can we get an Out Of Office meeting set in Outlook Calendar to trigger an Out Of Office reply from O
We have a user who works four days/week. In her Outlook Calendar, she can create an appointment and set it to show her as Out Of Office (OOO), which is a common functionality utilized by most users that go on vacation or travel from site to site. If she is usually out the same day every week, she can set that appointment to be recurring - again, common stuff. Question: why can I not find anyone that knows how to turn that Calendar OOO into an automated Email OOO response? Of course she could routinely turn on-and-off her OOO response in Email, but why should she have to? If the appt is set to be All Day, rather than 30 mins or two hours, why can't one side of Outlook understand what another side is doing? For those with Office Communicator and/or Lync, the whole interactive system can tell when you are In a Meeting, or On a Conference Call or Away or Offline with real-time accuracy and you don't have to do a thing. So why can't Outlook send an Email when you explicitly tell its Calendar that you're away for the day? Or can it, but I just can't find anyone in the community that knows how to set that up? Thanks. Windows XP Update Installation Failure Error Code: 0x8007001F
I have two dell pc's in a LAN with a verizon router and the network is wireless. Both PC's run the XP OS. Both machines are set to auto dnload and install windows updates from the Update website. Both PC's are protected by Norton 360. The auto dnload and instals worked just perfectly for a long time. Until the night of May 16 in fact. Both PC's install in the middle of the night. Since May 16 however the dnloads and installations have failed. I ran the "fix it utility" and this did not repair the problem. It is the exact same error code message for every failure: Installation Failure. Error Code: 0x8007001F. Help. I'm stymied. View this thread

Windows 7 Not Genuine after playing a game?
Hello! I bought a computer a few months ago which came with Windows 7 installed. I've have no problems with the computer at all until yesterday when after I played FlyFF for a few hours, "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine." But it is, and every time I run MGADiag.exe the message goes away. The next time I play that game, though, the message comes up again after about an hour in game. It doesn't come up if I do anything else on the computer, even other online games. Anyone know what's going on and how to fix this? Here's the data that MGADiag.exe gives me when I run it, in case that helps. Office 2010 Professional Plus 2010 install
My first attempt at installing Office 2010 was interrupted. I cancelled the installation. I made sure Microsoft updates were installed(I'm using Windows 7) and then restarted the computer. When I put the disk in, it begins to run the "bootstrap" and begins to prepare files for setup but then an error message, "Setup has stopped working" appears, followed by "A problem occured casuing the program to stop working." I tried the "Fixit" function on the Microsoft site, which removed the rgstrtn.lck file. I restarted again and still no joy. I'm not very technically savvy and need this installed soon. Please help! the program can't start because gdiplus.dll is missing from your computer
HI, I have windows 7 home, 64-bit. around a week ago, i installed a windows update ,after which programs( like windows media player, skype) suddenly started crashing a lot. next day I found this message when i tried to re install skype. "the program can't start because gdiplus.dll is missing from your computer" After 2-3 days, it started happening frequently, Now, when ever i try to install a program, it gives the same error. Many softwares are crashing frequently(mozilla firefox, internet explorer) and some are not working at all (like windows media player and windows photo viewer) I have tried to download gdipluss.dll file from internet but it didn't worked. I have also tried system resore but it does not shows the date of windows update. View this thread

All going smoothly till the other day when...
I have been a happy user of vista for a while now and until a couple of days ago I could just click on 'Documents' In Start Up List and see my documents.Since trying to save a document from a reliable web-site I now find I cannot access them this way and find if I go to Documents and Settings access is denied (I am an administrator on the pc).I can get to see the documents via Users, but why is it suddenly so complicated when it was so simple a few days ago, I have run various virus checks etc and all seems clear. ThanksAlso editing documents in 'Windows Office' is very slowPS. I have Vista View this thread

Windows 7 Pro not installing updates
I have a new, HP laptop that came with Windows 7 Home (64 bit). About 3-4 weeks ago I upgraded it to Win 7 Pro (64 bit), and have not had any problems until now. My laptop is set to download & notify me when updates are available - but let me choose when to install them. This morning, I got the usual message on my taskbar that updates were available to install. I clicked on install and waited. After several minutes, the message that updates had been successfully installed appeared. But, after that, I (again) received a message saying that updates were available to be installed. They were two updates that had been reported as installed, but didn't. The first update that would not install is: "Update for Microsoft .NET Framework," and the second is "Microsoft Silverlight (KB2668562)." I tried several times to install the updates, but they failed. After that I tried: 1) Restarting the laptop & trying again, that didn't work 2) Disabling UAC, restarting the PC, that didn't work 3) Disabling my anti-virus software (Avast Pro 7), and downloading the updates manually, that didn't work, 4) Shutting down the PC & letting it install the .NET Framework update, then disconnecting the AC & removing the battery for 20 minutes, that hasn't worked either. Finally, I ran Microsoft Fix-it. It reported one problem being found & fixed, but I still have the issue of not being able to install the 2 updates. Also, I don't know if it is related, but a window keeps popping up that says "Updates for Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English require a new version of the Microsoft Client Virtualization Handler. Please use Microsoft Update to get the new version of the Microsoft Client Virtualization Handler so you can continue to receive updates for security, performance and reliabality." However, when I run Windows Update from Internet Explorer 9 (64-bit), I am not getting the option to install this update. I have read some of the Windows Update Articles in hopes of finding a solution, but nothing seemed to apply. Any suggestions? Thanks, Terry View this thread
