  9. Posted on Windows 8 on the Horizon[/b] What this portends for Windows 8 is interesting. First users, and companies will have to decide if they want to make the upgrade sacrifice. Because to get the full benefit of Windows 8, they will have to change monitors to support touch technology not to mention the hardware technology, which will make Windows 8 a version to use. If you don’t want to or can’t afford to upgrade the hardware, why bother? Keep Windows 7. Second, are users and companies really ready for the Metro style interface? And while it may be possible to go back and forth between the traditional GUI and the new Metro UI, it has to be smooth and easy and intuitive to be a success. Some users will balk and other may accept it. But the latter must be the predominant ones. In all then, the prognosis for Microsoft OS still looks very good, but whether a new soldier in their platoon of software will add to their market strength will depend on whether Windows 8 gets a share of the market. 10. I receive the following error when I try downloading programs:Windows cannot take over the download. Click the back button to return to normal mode. I do not know what to do. I tried deleting programs I do not use, but that did not work. This is a pain in the butt when there are updates for programs you have and cannot get it. 13. I have a powepint document (2010) which links to a excel spreadsheet (2010). It's linked via the network drive: path, but each time I try to update the link it forces the path over to a UNC path. This causes massive issues with addins I have in excel. I have read throug http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323013 which elaborates on this issue and suggests a fix for this. This does not seem to work as this may be a fix for office 2002/2003 (ver 10.0) and i tried this on office 2010 (ver 14.0). I have also tried to search this theme up on google and technet and i do not see any fixes for this on 2010. My main question here would be: Is there some kind of policy and/or reg-fix that changes this? If so, what is the name? If not, how can i change this behaviour? View this thread

  17. I have a Compaq nx9010 laptop runnings XPsp3. I have tried to install drivers for a Belkin F5D8011 wireless notebook card. I have downloaded the correct driver into the downloads folder, but when I point the Update Driver Wizard to the folder I get a message telling me there are not any driver files in the folder. Belkin have not been very helpful, they just gave me a link to the driver. Does this mean the driver is not suitable for XP, even though Belkin says it is? Is is possible to install the driver without using the Wizard? Is there something wrong with (newly installed) XP? View this thread

  20. I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop which has replaced my old Dell working on Vista. The Toshiba works on Windows 7 premium, I am utterly amazed at the amount of updates that are coming thru, virtually every time I switch it off, it updates. This is approx every other day, I have used Microsoft from Windows 95 onwards & have never had an operating system that updated as often as this, its as tho they only did half the job when it was released and are still trying to fix it now. My main problem is that when I shut down at night it goes for an update and at times it takes ages, there have been a number of times it has still been updating when I come down in the morning, its rediculous. the troubleshooter finds no problem at all. I find I need to unplug and remove the batteries to get it back working again. View this thread

  22. I've had this problem since 2012.4.25. When i try to run windows update it says "Windows could not search for updates. Error code 8007007E". I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. I've already tried fixing the problem from control panel with "fix problems with windows update" I've also tried Microsoft Fix It program. I did SFC /SCANNOW procedure and followed instructions in this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 and there i found in the sfc details that there were some problems with sppc.dll file. In the file there was often similar texts like below. Cannot repair member file [l:16{8}]"sppc.dll" of Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP-Client, Version = 6.1.7601.17514, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, file is missing Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"??C:WindowsSystem32"[l:16{8}]"sppc.dll" source file in store is also corrupted When i did as the link above instructed and typed "takeown /f C:WindowsSystem32sppc.dll" in the command prompt it said "ERROR: the system cannot find the file specified".
