I bought upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 7 Professional but it won't work
I have a new hp Pavilion dv7 which came with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have found that my old xp devices won't work and was advised to buy the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. I bought an upgrade card at Staples and went through the installation steps as per instructions. It seemed to be okay. I see the Windows Virtual PC folders listed in the Programs area of the Start Menu, but when I try to start them, all I get is a message that I have to install the upgrade for xp. I don't know what these folders are supposed to do, but they ain't doing it. What can I do? I'm not going to pay for ANOTHER upgrade when I already have one. And why don't these things come with instructions anymore????? View the thread

I am having an issue with the pop up ads that display to the right of my in box listings. Everytime an ESPN ad pops up it opens a full screen ad and wipes out my email. There is not even the option to click the back arrow it just refreshes the ESPN screen. How to I stop this from happening and is there a way to get rid of the ads all together. My husband uses hotmail and does not have any ads at all. View the thread

Windows Phone 8: Round Up Of What’s New
Posted on New Start Screen Windows Phone has always had a pretty cool and unique start screen, but Microsoft have still continued to improve on it. As you can see from the screenshot above, the start screen now spans the width of the screen. There’s now support for more color themes and the live tiles can be adjusted in size. New Hardware Support NFC (Near Field Communication) support is the lasted big hardware change this time around. There is now also support for multicore processors, new screen resolutions (including 1280 x 720px) as well as support for MicroSD cards. New Software Features Windows Phone 8 will now support in-app purchases which is already found on both Android and iOS. Microsoft have also added in a new “wallet” which you can store personal info securely. Windows Phones will now also be able to get over the air updates, instead of having to be connected to a PC and Microsoft have started bringing a lot of Windows 8 into Windows Phone 8, such as ways that the OS’s handle security, gaming and networking. Microsoft recently acquired Skype and now there’s a new app for Windows Phone 8. Skype will be closely integrated throughout Windows Phone 8 and you’ll have the option to make calls via Skype or through your carrier once you install the app. One final major feature that Microsoft introduced was “TellMe”, which allows you to speak commands to an app. For the demo Microsoft showcased Audible. You’re able to launch, pause, stop and resume media simply with your voice which is pretty cool. Well first off, current Windows Phone users probably feel a little hard done by, as they won’t be able to get the upgrade. However Microsoft has softened the blow a little and announced that Windows Phone 7.8 will be available as an upgrade. This will bring the new start screen along with a few other changes. Microsoft didn’t give a specific date for Windows Phone 8 to be released, but they just said that phones running it will ship in the fall. They also mentioned the “Holiday Season” so it could be anytime between August and Christmas! I’m sure we’ll get a few more hints closer to the time. Overall Windows Phone 8 is another big improvement for Windows Phone, which is already proving to be a great operating system. However Android and iOS are still leagues ahead of it in terms of market share and I’m sure this is something Microsoft are working hard to change. What do you think of Windows Phone 8? What version of Home/Office do I need?
My old lap top had Windows Vista & the new one has Windows 7. I'm trying to install Microsoft Home & Office with the key I already have. What's the difference between .32 .64 and C2R? I was instructed to download the links one at a time and the .32 was first. After completing the activation, I attempted to download the .64 and it said I couldn't have both so I'd need to uninstall .32 before installing .64. What is the difference and which one do I need? Thank you. View the thread

Old game not compatible with Windows 7
I am trying to install an older computer game on my Windows 7 PC and I think I this game isn't compatible with it. It worked fine on my old PC which had Vista. Is there a way to download Windows Vista because I can't find one here. I downloaded something half an hour ago but when I tried to install it nothing happened. I can't find Vista here, it just keeps telling me to download Windows 7, which I already have. My computer came with Windows 7 so I don't think there's a way to go back to Vista. I am getting really annoyed and would like some help with this Suddenly the game works, I just had to click the "retry" button a million times. It is still coming up with the same error message, but it seems to work (somewhat) View the thread

Swapping Windows 7 keys between computers
I have two Windows 7 keys that I got through school. One is for 64 bit and the other for 32. Currently I have the 32 bit version on my desktop computer and 64 bit on my laptop. I want to switch that around and use the 64 bit version on my desktop and 32 on the laptop. Will this be as easy as uninstalling windows on each and reinstalling or will I need to contact Microsoft to pull of the switch? Thank you very much. View the thread

Chkdsk /f a Few Years Ago and Then Now...
Hello: Not very long ago when you used the chkdsk /f command to check for Cross-Linked Files, Lost Allocation Units, Bad Sectors etc. and when there were cross linked files, lost allocation units etc. chkdsk would create a file and place the file on your hard drive. The file I believe if I remember correctly had the extension .000 and .001 and so on. When chkdsk /f is run on the system with Microsoft Windows 7, where are the recovered files stored and what are the filenames? Extensions? A few years ago you would view these files and sometimes you were able to recover ascii text which was better than nothing. This used to be second nature for me, but I have been out of the technical world for a while so any help is appreciated. Thanks, E View the thread

WSUS-Manul update work, but automatic install doesn't work
I have setup WSUS server in our environment. We have all Windows 7 Workstations. I have set 4 - Auto download and schedule the install option with 0 - Every day at 12:00 noon in Group policy on domain. I have approved the required updates as well. Clients workstations are also registered with servers. Only this they don't update automatically as per Group policy. On any workstation, I ran RSOP and it is showing right information about WSUS server and the schedule which I mentioned above. I can go to Control Panel and Windows Update, it shows 'Managed by your system administrator' which is right, and if I check for updates, it shows me all the updates which I have approved on WSUS server. Only thing it doesn't update automatically as per schedule. I have to manually update it. Can anybody help me to resolve this issue please. View this thread
