I recently reinstalled Windows 7. Windows Update hangs while downloading updates. The progress bar is pulsing, and there are no error messages, but it says "Downloading 17 updates (0 KB total, 0% complete)" and does not move. I have tried the MrFixIt tool at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/ but it also stops and says "Checking for updates online..." and does not progress. I have disabled my firewall and my antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and that did not help. What should I do? View the thread

I have an older desktop PC running WinXP that crashed. I had 2 - 320GB hard drives. I have mounted the drives in an external enclosure, but can't get onto the drives with a new core i7 desktop running Win7. I don't see the drive when I try to access them through 'my computer', but when I run 'Computer Management' and then 'Disk Management', the console SEES the drive and gives this info: It shows as a volume with no drive letter - only as 'Disk 10' Layout: Simple Type: Basic File System: none shown Status: Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) Capacity: 298.09 GB Free Space: 298.09 % Free: 100% Fault Tolerance: No Overhead: 0% It is shown as being 'Online' There IS data on the disk even though it shows 100% empty.....so what does that indicate? If I right click on the drive, ONLY the 'Delete Volume: and 'Help' are active - everything else is greyed out so I can 't change anything. So, help would sincerely be appreciated. View the thread

We received a called today saying that a very bad virus has gotten into Windows and would we like them to correct it, in other words give them access, my husband said no. I have a new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've installed Security Essentials and run the first "Quck Scan." It appears, however, that only the "C" drive is being scanned. How do I confirm that the other disks are being scanned? In Quick Scan? In Full Scan? Thanks in advance. View this thread

After scanning my Windows XP home edition SP3 computer and removing the threats with Anti-spyware, my Windows password is no longer recognized. Hi, Earlier I was using Window XP at the other PC. However the had disk failed recently and I send for repair. The vendor going to replace it with a "Second hand" hard disk. It that had disk has somebody OS, may I know if I can insert my XP OS disk to replace somebody's OS. My OS is genuine MS OS, otherwise I will miss out the Window Updates. Thanks Low View this thread

I have a virus and I have downloaded Windows Defender offline and set it up to reboot from my usb drive. I get as far as the update process and it tells me that window defender will not update and it gives me the error code 0x80072ee7. Ideas?
