HI I was wondering if I could please ask some questions about Microsoft Essentials. How often does Microsoft Essentials update its defintions? Does Microsoft Essentials have streaming updates to update it defs? How often does Microsoft release program updates for Microsoft Essentials? Could you give me some reasons I should switch to Microsoft Essentials? Thanks a lot have a great day View this thread

My calendar is made up of tons of meetings. Not sure why, that is just how I built it. I deleted one of the main "meetings" with a ton of info on it and I'd love to get it back. LP View this thread

I want to backup all messages and contact addresses to a separate HD or thumb drive for easy restoring to my machine if disaster occurs. I already have a backup setting for other files which backup to a schedule, but in choosing files to backup, it does not appear that I have (or can) selected e-mail for such protection. I'm having difficulty in viewing attachments from my Acer laptop. This wasn't so till a few weeks ago. What could be the cause please? When I click the attached mail and it takes me to scanning for virus, then to open, it ends there. The document will not open up for viewing. View the thread

Did a clean install on my computer. Windows update keeps giving the error code 0x8024400A. Tried to re-install my system again ...still get same error code along with this message......" The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. " Thought perhaps...maybe Micosoft's website might be having some issues. I've done several clean installs over the years with this computer...never a problem till today. Done a lot of searching for answers but no luck. The Fix-IT program that microsoft offers won't work ...says I need service pack 3. I have service pack 2 and am unable to update to service pack 3 or anything else for that matter. No third party anti spyware or antivirus is running my computer...time and date are correct. Running XP Home Edition on my laptop. Anyone out there have any idea what's going on. CAUSE This issue occurs because the Wups2.dll file that is included in the latest version of Windows Update is not installed correctly. For scenario 1, the registry entries that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing after the repair install of Windows XP. So basically I built my computer myself and have Windows 7 64bit OEM installed. I'm know that there are restrictions on what hardware you can upgrade on an OEM OS. I'm pretty sure RAM is ok. But if I want to get a knew video card (looking at the GTX 680) I think I have to install it and then get it reactivated. My question is how do I do this exactly, what the process for installing new hardware. While I'm at it I may as well ask this as well: What hardware can and cannot be upgraded on a Windows 7 OEM operating system without it being deactivated and if it is deactivated how do I get it reactivated. Also what happens if the OS is deactivated? What are the limitations and such? Thanks for your help and sorry if this info was already available. i was recently deleting things of off my desktop computer from under the add or remove programs section and i think i acidently deleted the drivers for my ethernet controller, i think , and now when iever i access the internet or attempt to it say that its not detecting any wired or wireless internet cards ..... please help me im in college and i really need my computer working , if it wasnt for my cell phone i wouldnt even be able to send this , thanks again and i trully appreciate your help. The issue just popped up today. I use Microsoft Vista (I believe it's service pack 2). Microsoft Update is working without error. I have the latest updates installed except for this security definition. The time is set correctly. I can connect to the internet without error. The error message I receive when I try to download is "Virus and Spyware definitions: Connection Failed", "Definitions Created on: 6/13/2012 at 6:05am", "Definitions last updated: 6/28/2012 at 3:34 AM", "Virus Definition Version: 1.129.601.0", "Spyware definition version: 1.129.601.0". Just checking on my update history in Microsoft Update, the failed defnition that I cannot download and install is "KB2310138 (Definition 1.129.768.0)". I have attempted the troubleshooting steps at the MSE site. I've rebooted the computer several times and restored the comptuer to 2 and 3 days ago. Nothing is resolving this issue. Very frusterated. I just received a call from a "microsoft rep" I used quotes because I really don't think he was. he spoke with Indian/Pakistani accent. he kept saying that there was an error report that I sent. after I told him that my computer is perfectly fine, has been perfectly fine since I bought it and that i never sent an error report, he changed his story. he said that my computer automatically sent an error report. I then told him that I have been using Ubuntu (an operating system based on Linux. also note that this is not really true.) and he said that if the computer was on, then a report can be sent. he kept telling me to go to start-> right click computer/my computer -> device manager..... I never went past that point. I told him that I know plenty about computers and that I have actually built my own. At which point he said "....I do not believe you are a technical person, and I, a technical person, can help you". Those were his exact words. Another fishy thing was their number. My phone displayed 1-000-000-0000 which (according to yahoo answers http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060919180505AA4G8T5) is something telemarketers use to bypass new laws and the number (probably) can't be traced. after he wasted 15 minutes, I told him that I do not believe he is from microsoft, and that I would report him. I have MS Security Essentials running on two laptops and do full scans at least monthly. The History tab has NEVER listed a detected threat of any kind. The fields on that tab are always blank. How is that possible? View this thread

On my grand daughter’s new lap top computer she got a warning that the Norton antivirus that comes with the computer was soon to expire. I told her all we needed to do was down load Microsoft Security Essentials. Then I discovered that the Security Essentials was already loaded on her lap top. However, it had a warning on the Security Essentials that read “PC POTENTIALLY UNPROTECTED.” So I ran a scan using this service which I am not sure that it really worked. Then I read on the internet that there could be a problem due to having the Symantec still loaded on the computer, so I went to control panel and removed all Symantec from the computer. I then ran a scan. I am still getting the “PC POTENTIALLY UNPROTECTED” warning. And it won’t tell me what action I should take to cure the warning. View this thread

I'm thinking of purchasing Windows 7 now so I can get the Windows 8 Upgrade offer, but I read somewhere that this is limited to PC's that come preinstalled with it. l've attempted numerous times to change my computer's monitor sleep mode from 2 hours to 5 hours, and it will not reset, approx. a year ago, l needed Dell to re-install a corrupted hard drive with Windows Vista on it... and l'm still having problems with Vista. They've check the newly purchased monitor and that's not the problem, so how do l go about fixing my sleep mode without Re-lnstalling Vista again ????.... This is pathetic. View this thread
