mouhid.sys problem
My Win 7 system died completely after awaking from sleep, downloading some update, installing and rebooting. Now it goes directly to a blue crash screen. It will not boot under any boot option at all. Straight to blue screen crash dump. I booted with logging enabled and the last driver to be loaded was mouhid.sys. (I put the drive in a new machine to look at it). The program size was 30.5K, which according to what I have read is off by 2X. I tried to download and replace the file thinking that if this was a trojan, maybe I could get the machine to boot. Win 7, will not allow me to chage the file, even though it is the I drive, and I am the administrator. It says I need approval from "TrustedInstaller". How in the world do I get that? I am not installing from a website. Can anybody help me? There is a lot at stake here. View the thread

Update Failure [FIx?] KB2310138 (Definition 1.129.804.0) - 26JUN2012-01JUL2012
Vista Business 32bit All recommended updates through 26JUN2012 From Windows Update dtd 26JUN2012 Until today 01JUL2012, MSE failed to update and there were no warning signs. Today 01JUL2012 The Security Center 'went RED'.. I reenabled, updated, and scanned PC with Windows Defender. My solution / fix / work around, after 7 failed update attempts, and reboots, was to uninstall MSE, Reboot, and Reinstall MSE. MSE easily installed, updadet and completed a full scan. I/O Error when trying to read larger SD cards
I have a Compaq FS7600 PC that I bought in Dec. 2005. I have Windows XP Home Edition V 2002, Service Pack 3. I have McAfee Anti Virus Software installed and running. The problem I'm having is that I wanted to use a 16 or 32 GB SD card to back-up my files. My PC will read the old 1 or 2 GB SD cards but won't read the larger ones. It gives me an I/O error. Can I download something that will make the computer recognize the larger storage devices or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a new PC? Thanks! View this thread

Will using a system imaging program like Acronis to recover an unbootable Win XP (SP3) Pro computer
Good morning everyone, My second-hand computer (Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop running Win XP Pro [sP3]) did not come with a backup CD. From what I have read, there are imaging programs like Acronis & Shadow Protect which can create an image of everything, including the operating system onto a CD/DVD or USB flash drive which can then be used to recover the same computer if it should become completely unbootable. My question(s): Do imaging programs actually re-install everything, including the operating system itself? If not, where can I acquire a LEGITIMATE WIn XP Pro SP3 backup CD to use? Thank you for your time and any info! View this thread

VISTA WINDOWS UPDATES NOT WORKING--SYSTEM MECHANIC
I am having the same problem with my Windows Vista operating system. I am getting the error codes 641 and 80070641 after trying to install Windows Updates. I am using Firefox 13.01 but also have Internet Explorer 9 on my system. I have Service Pack 3 on my system. I tried a fix that worked for Katy and John on the Microsoft Answers blog but it didn't work. when trying to Import the reset.reg file I get an error message that says" Cannot Import Key selected is invalid". I too have System Mechanic on my computer. I have not been able to load 19 updates. I really do not want to have to do a factory system restore. Help!!?? View this thread

Full Upgrades to Windows 8 Only Possible from Windows 7
Posted on [*]Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium PCs will be able for a full upgrade to Windows 8. That means that all applications, data, user accounts and Windows settings will be kept. [*]Users will also be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate, whilst keeping all applications, data, user accounts and Windows settings. [*]For those looking to upgrade to Windows 8 Enterprise, only Windows 7 Professional and Enterprise versions will be able to make the move and retain applications, data, user accounts and Windows settings. [*]Windows Vista users however won’t be quite as lucky. If you don’t have SP1 installed you will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 but only your personal files/data will be saved. If you have SP1 installed your system settings along with your data will be carried across in the move. [*]Windows XP users will only be able to upgrade to Windows 8 and keep their personal files/data if they have Service Pack 3 or higher installed. [*]Users won’t be able to upgrade to Windows 8 and keep their Windows settings, files or applications if they are doing a cross-language installation. However there is an additional option that allows you to keep your data if you do the install using Windows 8 Setup [*]For those of you looking to change architecture ie. 32 bit to 64 bit, you won’t be able to do this. You’ll have to completely wipe your hard drive and install Windows 8 from scratch. These upgrade paths are very similar to the ones that were available with Windows 7. However Microsoft did make a greater effort to make the upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 as painless as possible since Windows XP had a very large proportion of the market at the time. Backup and Reinstall windows 7
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with a 2.1ghz dual core processor. It came with a Windows 7 Ultimate Version. I had immediately made a dell system restore disc. Now i wish to restore my dell laptop to factory settings using these discs. I have about 250 gb of data on this laptop which i don not wish to lose. I have stored all of it in a single folder titled backup. How do i use these discs to restore the windows 7 without losing the data. I do not have enouigh dvds or externa harddrives to copy this data and store it somewhere else. What should i do.? Is there anyway to do a complete system restore using those discs but without affecting the folder titled backup? View the thread
