One of my Word documents I uploaded to SkyDrive seems to have been corrupted. When trying to open it in Word, the system erroneously tries to invoke &quotRights Management&quot. The doc is not worth protecting, in fact I don't use this feature at all. What causes this, and how can I retrieve the doc? PS: I continued to follow the wizard and ultimately the Rights Management part failed with a &quotAD RMS data didn't match the expected format&quot message. Hi In Outlook 2013 you can enable the Calendar View on the right side of the Mail View: Here you can see the calendar and the (cut off) text (on top of People panel) "You have nothing else scheduled today". This calendar panel shows only appointments for today. If I have an appointment tomorrow, the panel doesn't show it. In Outlook 2007 I could see all appointments in near future. Is there a possibility to show more appointments from the future in this view, not only from today? Thanks View this thread

OK I've gotten myself into a bit of trouble. I did my second Win 8 upgrade tonight, paying $40 for a 2nd upgrade key. Everything went great and then I remembered I could install Windows Media Center for free until January. I already had a key from my first upgrade and stupid me, figured "since they give these things away maybe I can just reuse this key." So I entered the key and Windows accepted it and did the upgrade, but of course when the system rebooted I had an activation error since the key was being used elsewhere (my other machine). OK, so I grabbed the key from my Win 8 upgrade receipt but that's no longer valid because it's a Win 8 Pro key and I now have Win 8 Pro With Media Center which is a different edition. So now I have a machine that isn't activated. I can't figure out how to "roll back" to Windows 8 Pro so that I can use the key from my order receipt. I tried requesting another free Media Center Key but no joy there, maybe because I used the same email address for both upgrades? I can't find a place to buy a Media Center Key since MS is giving them away. And obviously I don't want to spend $40 for another upgrade fee. Is there any way out of this mess? I can live without Media Center...I mostly was installing it because it was free. I'm just not sure how to uninstall it in such a way that it changes the edition of my OS to Windows 8 Pro again. So, we obtained our VL Office 2013 installation .iso file. My Windows 8 image currently has Office 2010 installed. If I run the Office 2013 "setup.exe", it prompts for an "Upgrade" installation (and the "Customize" options indicate it's supposed to remove all other versions). Yet, after installing the Office 2013 upgrade, I am still left with "Office 14" folders in the Microsoft Office folders C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) -- and "Programs and Features" says I still have Office Professional Plus 2010 still installed. Is this unique to upgrading Office in Windows 8? Or are Office 2010 bits still left behind after an Office 2013 "Upgrade" installation? View this thread

I'm trying to play vídeos on my Windows 8 and all I can see is a black screen and I can only hear the sound. This happens everywhere. Youtube, video apps, media player. I can't understand why. I've installed already the K-Lite Codec pack and I've upgraded my AMD video card. But still no luck. Only sound , no video. How are you connecting? Is it a LAN connection? Mine laptop and desktop have no problem staying connected on reboot.

Issue: Explorer.exe crashes and restarts every 1-2 minutes. It doesn't matter if I'm in the start screen or in the desktop. Applications that depend on the explorer crash or hang as well. Background: Machine was upgraded from Windows 7 to the RTM build of Windows 8. This problem did not show up immediately, after a day it happened once and I rebooted which seemed to help. Now the problem shows up immediately after rebooting. Steps: 1. Ran "sfc /scannow". It completed successfully and fixed a few corruption issues. 2. Booted into Safe Mode and the problem still exists. 3. Ran windbg.exe, attached to explorer.exe process to capture crash information. Hey all, The RuntimeBroker.exe process is new for Windows 8 that is a &quotmiddleman&quot type process for new Win8 type apps. I read somewhere that it should be a very small footprint. Looking at my Win8 Pro system (RTM code) my RuntimeBroker.exe is taking &gt 500MB of Memory, and I have seen it larger than this. Is this a problem? What are you all seeing? Thanks! I've heard rumors that the Surface RT sales numbers have been incredibly low. The 32GB model, for example, has sold less than 50,000 units online and half that in the the stores. Microsoft didn't think they'd sell - so they only manufactured a small amounts - and this is why they &quotsold out&quot. The 64GB version has only sold about 100,000 units total. A friend who is an MS employee at one store (name withheld to save his job) mentioned that the return rate is very high - about 20% (1 in 5 sales come back). I put Windows 8 on my daughters old laptop over the weekend. She mainly just browses the internet with it so of course the first thing that comes up is why isn't there a shortcut/tile to run the Desktop IE10 on the start screen? (The Metro version of IE10 is simply not acceptable to use.) I know you can just go over to the Desktop Interface to run IE10, but since Metro is the new Start Menu, doesn't it makes sense that you have the ability to add a tile/shortcut for &quotany&quot application to the only Start Menu included in Windows 8? I don't believe it's possible to do this, but I mentioned to her that I would check and if not, we'll just install Firefox so she can have a shortcut in the Start Menu to run. View the full article

Hello, I have the following problem: I have connected my domain account with a live id. I have no problem signing in into the xbox app, but it is impossible to sign in to the music app. I am using Windows 8 Enterprise x64 and made an upgrade from windows 7 enterprise. First off sorry for not putting a comment here originally the comment box doesnt rendered properly in Safari, just comes up with a progress bar...anyway at another PC Now with IE 8 Ok following are the steps I took to setup Win 8 Pro RTM Created Windows 8 Pro RTM USB Boot image Disks Disk 0 SATA (Data drive docs and files)- 2 TB Seagate Disk 1 SATA (OS, Apps, Software Installs) - 2 TB Seagate Disk 2 OCZ Agility3 (Games) - 128 GB SSD Disabled disk 0 and 2 to insure win 8 system partition created on Disk 1 - previously issue with Win 7 Installed OS - Everything booted up fine Re-Enabled Disk 0 and Disk 2 - Everything fine Installed VS2008 + SP, VS 2010 + SP, VS 2012 Installed SQL 2012 Developer Enabled Win8 Hyper-V - troubles began - couldn't update - after a couple reboots ended up with the Windows 8 blue logo - had to refresh Refresh worked - However didn’t disable Disk 0 and Disk 2 for the Refresh Installed Windows Media Centre - ended up paying for key as the free key didn't work - suspect possible issue with the feature activation on the Australian Windows Store Installed Splastop Desktop windows 8 Installed Office 2010 Trusted the PC Installed Hyper-V again - troubles again couldn't boot - same blue windows 8 logo screen – this time unable to Refresh repair. Attempted restart from USB Boot image. I can get to repair screen however can’t move forward from this point as it says the drive is locked. I’ve no idea how to unlock in Windows 8, I can probably do this from the command prompt, assuming its possible to unlock from there, just don’t know how to do it, which is what I need help with please. At this stage if I can get Win 8 refreshed(without file loss) I plan is to copy my software files back to my Data Drive and then do a fresh install of Windows 7, which works well. To be honest little disappointed with the new Frankenstein Win8 Classic/RT experience. Love the fact that Hyper-V is available in 8 (if it works) but might wait for SP1 and possibly a Start Button/Orb on the Desktop Anyway any help in unlocking my drive would be greatly appreciate. This causes problems if you don’t use a homegroup to share files around your home network, or if you’ve setup traditional network shares to share files between PCs as you’ll no longer be able to access Network shares in Windows 8. How To Access Network Shares in Windows 8 If you’ve tried to access a network share in Windows 8, you’ve either not been able to open folders or been presented with a login dialog. The problem with the login dialog is even though there is a ‘remember my credentials’ button, it doesn’t seem to work, so you’ll have to enter your credentials each and every time. To avoid having to enter any details when accessing network shares using a Windows 8 Live account, you can store your credentials using the Windows Vault utility. Go to the Start screen and type vault Click on the Settings filter on the right to display Manage Windows Credentials – select this option In the Credential Windows that opens up, select Add a Windows credential In the popup windows that appears, enter the name of the PC you want to connect to – just the name e.g Homeserver not \Homeserver Also enter the Username and password and then click ok Reboot when convienient After rebooting you’ll be able to connect to your network shares directly with your windows 8 live account in the same way as you would with an old style windows local account. I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and none of the tiles except Maps works. They just seem to load for EVER, leaving me in front of a blue screen. I tried everything: changing the screen resolution, creating another user account, running all sorts of tests, multiple restarts, turning off my antivirus, deleting the ole key etc. It looks like a lot of other people have the same problem yet there has been no solution. This disappointed many HTPC enthusiasts such as myself, but Microsoft have done a bit of a u-turn and are offering Windows Media Center for free to Windows 8 Pro customers until January 31st 2013. To receive the free offer, customers have to visit this page and enter their email address and a Windows 8 Media Center Pack key will be emailed for free. I think there’s a problem with the system though as it took over a day for my key to arrive. I haven’t had time to delve into Windows 8 Media Center, but I couldn’t see any new features or changes from Windows 7 Media Center. This is a bit disappointing, but hopefully by making Windows 8 Media Center a premium product, Microsoft will have to at least respond to known bugs, which they didn’t do with Windows 7 Media Center. Is there any way to make the windows 8 start screen STAY active on one of the monitors while working on the others? If not the start screen is just a horrible waste of space and time for me and countless other users who will have this same issue. Also is there a way to make the start screen boot onto a monitor that is not my main? This needs to be implemented as it is an annoyance every time I boot up my computer. I know this is an issue for many users already and I think this is a very needed addition to make any kind of use of the windows 8 start screen with multiple monitors. Thanks for your time.
