I have Windows XP Recently, I have been notified by Pogo.com (of which I'm a member) that I need to upgrade to Windows 8 for better service. I ignored this notification and did not initiate any change. However, when I play in Pogo now they show that I have upgraded to Windows 8. I am sure this is going to cost me and I do not want to spend this extra in my computer. Please tell me what I can do about this situation to correct it? View this thread

I have a Samsung 700t slate that I upgraded to win8 pro. once in a while, i.e. every other day or so the lock screen appears to be hung in that it wont slide up. the computer still seems to be alive as the cursor is visible on the screen when I have a mouse plugged in, the volume slider appears when I adjust the volume, and the autorotate button displays the message when its button is toggled. I haven't tried an rdp connection to the machine yet when its in this state. I've installed all updates from winupdate and have all the Samsung drivers installed through the Samsung driver tool. I've seen people report similar issues, but in those cases they seem to indicate that the machine is completely frozen. from what I can tell, i'm at least partially alive. anyone seen anything similar?to recover, I need to do a hard reset, but even then it takes at least a couple of times of full power cycling to recover to the point where the lock screen will work again. After finally upgrading to Windows 8 with a lot of trouble, I finally have it on my laptop. It looks beautiful, I love the feel of it and it seems like it will do very well. However, when I upgraded I only chose the option of keeping personal files, as it wouldn't let me upgrade if I did it along with files and settings. Now Microsoft Word 2010 is gone. Also, many other programs are gone as well. To add to the troubles, the app store won't let me download apps. Whenever I try to it says that something went wrong and my purchase couldn't be completed. I have all my information in and all the correct billing information in, but it still won't let me. I just replaced my hard drive. When I reinstalled Windows 7, I'm finding that Windows Update is not working. The settings are set to "install updates automatically", but when I click on "check for updates", I get a message saying the "service is not running". We receive error code 80246008 Microsoft Update encountered an unknown errror when we try to install updated. The BITS was not in the Service list. This is a 32-Bit windows 7 computer. It was infected, cleaned and returned. Prior to infection we had no problem downloading updates. View this thread

Hi there: At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm also having issues with the Update KB2756872 (and also KB2769165, KB2770917). I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13, fresh install of Windows 8, just picked up yesterday. I've attempted the fixes listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2777330. Have Trend Micro Titanium newly installed, fully updated. Tried also disabling it to run the update, no joy. Uninstalled audio and video drivers (tried each, then both together) and attempted the update, no joy. Also tried to download and run the updates manually, all failed. And last I tried the System Update Readiness Tool instructions for Windows 8 detailed here with no joy: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821. Can try cleaning out the update cache? Not sure if there are any other fixes I can attempt here, but more than willing. Would really rather not have to go through a fresh Windows 8 install, as this laptop came with no install media and it would involve jumping through more hoops. Thanks much! View this thread

Press the windows key [on W8]( that little key next to the key) and type in the name of a program you want to run. BOOM!!!! there it is, now click on it. Seems pretty damn easy. What am I missing? Since the Windows 7 auto download and update on November 16, 2012 my Windows x64 Profressional system take a very long time to boot, it starts normally, then the video goes blank for several minutes(I get no signal on my monitor), all my usb devices (N52te speed pad, G15 keyboard, G7 laser mouse) have no lights, and disk activity is very minimal for few minutes, then my screen and usb come back it fully boots. Also my Windows Security Essential popups and tells me real time protection is turned off. My system ran fine until this update. It is an ASUS P8Z68-V GEN3 and Core i7 2600k with 16Gb RAM. I just run XMP profile for the turbo mode. View this thread
