To whom it may concern at Microsoft. Today I received a phone call from someone who claimed to be a technician from Microsoft. He called me from 1(651)420-1786. He had me push the "windows" key next to the "Ctrl" key and at the same time, push the "r" key. this brought up a window which he had me type in "eventvwr" and push enter. this brought up a screen and he had me click on the "custom views" folder and then the "administrative events" within that folder. this showed me some error problems. then he had me close that window, and again he had me push the "windows" key next to the "Ctrl" key and at the same time, push the "r" key. then he had me type in "iexplore support.me" which brought up an internet window that wanted a 6 digit code. He then wanted to provide me with that code, a code for a year would cost $100.00, and he offered a code that would be good for 2 years or I could purchase a code good for life. Will Microsoft be fixing the issue with start button, where if one is using a mouse and moves to the bottom left side of screen to make the Start button appear (why? One can't help but ask... the taskbar is there, so why not just have a permanent button on it like the last 20+yrs of GUI usability has proven works!!? BAD decision that one!!) ... why the start button disappears even though I haven't yet moved my mouse off of it. I'm still hovering my mouse pointer over it, but yet it still disappears and more often than not I end up clicking the program underneath it instead. Would it be possible to make the Start button NOT disappear until the user makes the decision to move their mouse pointer from it completely. If my pointer is hovering over it, I don't understand why it is disappearing. This goes against ALL usability practices!! This is a deal-breaker. If this isn't repaired within the next month I shall be uninstalling Windows 8 from my own machine and recommending that all of my clients DO NOT upgrade to it. I shall also be actively promoting alternatives to Windows 8. This is such a shame! You had the chance to make something great, but instead you gave us Windows 8. Umm catchy...!! Using Windows 7. Microsoft Security Essentials will not automatically start on boot up. Must manually start and the application then must apply for permission before starting. Have tried Startup folder as well as Task Scheduler to no avail. View this thread

I have a pair of 500GB drives configured as a mirrored storage space, which is reported in the Manage Storage Spaces applet as: "Two-way mirror 493 GB Using 929 GB pool capacity" To test this thoroughly I've filled the storage space, and as expected (from what I'd read) Windows 8 automatically takes the drive offline. Disk Manager shows "The disk is offline because it is out of capacity". Now, I'd like to be able to delete some files from the storage space, but as soon as I try to bring the drive online, it immediately goes offline again. How do you get out of this situation? I was workiing online, and I started having issues with ie10, freezes, shut downs, and then the whole hard drive crashed, every program, system file gone. Used system restore to regain control of my computer, but now all of my media files, music, pictures everything are gone. How can I locate them, and restore them. When I try to print out a page all I get is the page 1 of 1 at top and the file trail at the bottom of the page. When I try to view what I want to print it only shows the page 1 of 1 at the top of the page and the file trail at the bottom of the page. I can see what I want to print but in print preview it doesn't shhow. All also copied and pasted it in Windows with the same results. My laptop completed a series of windows updates and after restarting I get nothing just a black screen that doesn't even look turned on, there are no messages, nothing. The fan is running and the HD light flashes every 5 - 10 seconds but that's it. I'm not that knowledgable about computers so I have no idea how to fix this, any help would be appreciated. I've searched a lot for this and not found a clear answer. Basically I'd like to purchase Microsoft Office. My wife just bought a Macbook Pro, and I only have an old 2003 version on my PC + laptop. Ideally I'd like to purchase Mac Office 2011 for my wife, with a license to use it on both my PC and laptop as Office 2010 AND with the option to upgrade to 2013 on my laptop & PC when it's released. Also, as an option, my wife is a teacher so is there an Academic price available discount somewhere? Is what I want possible? I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP2. Getting the 80070490 error on Windows update installs. The following solutions recommended by what have been able to find have not worked: I have tried Microsoft Readiness tool several time with no success. I have tried using my Vista system disk with using the UPGRADE option also several time and still no success. The upgrade option is always grayed out. I have done a new INSTALL 2 different times. I then run the Windows Update, over and over with each levels reboot. I have 2 monitors on my Win8 Enterprise PC. I like to have the same background picture displayed on both screens. It would seem in Windows 8, the default is to have 2 *different* backgrounds displayed on the 2 monitors. That's fine, but how do you get Win8 to use the same background on both monitors, and at the same time use all the backgrounds in your desktop background list (Personalize > Desktop Backgrounds). The only way I can find to have the same background on both displays is to right click *one* of the thumbnails in the desktop backgrounds list, and choose "set for all monitors". However, when you do this, you disable all the other chosen thumbnails, and are stuck with just the one background. Uggg. So how I do I get it back to the old Win7 way? View the full article

I have noticed that over the last month or so I have been unable to install my windows updates and have found that my BITS service is missing. I have also just purchased a download of Windows 8 Pro but am having trouble getting it downloaded and think that maybe not having the latest windows 7 updates and missing BITS service could be the reason why Please could someone help me. Has anyone had this problem...I opened an email from a friend inviting me to see photographs on his Facebook, and the link took me instead to a site called Voosk, which I stupidly opened, because it then sent the same invitation to everyone in my contacts (who are pretty annoyed). It is still happening (one friend has gotten three "invitations" from me!) I don't know how to email my entire contacts list to warm them not to open further emails. Thanks! View this thread
