I am using windodw ver 7 running at 64bits. I installed alite on corp blu ray double layer read wirtable blue ray dvd drive. the computer sees it as a single layor cd/ dvd drive. how can i get the computer to reconise it as a dl drive? View the thread

Original Title: Download problems After I download a file it is removed when I try to open it. I get an error that says C:Documents and settingsusermydownlaodsthan the download name, can not be found.when I look in my download file it shows the download as being removed. Any ideas? I have been given a Acer Veriton Desktop Tower to practice repair and update work on a Tower. I wish to upgrade memory RAM, add upgraded and larger memory Hard Drive and change Windows from XP to Windows 7. Also I need to add new network connection changing from LAN to WAN via wireless. I have a users account password and have started my planned changes by trying to add a network connection for Email and Web connections. The system is telling me I need an administration password to start this change. What are my options ? Would be prepared to wipe hard drive clean and start by adding windows 7. Is this a realistic option for I understand this would mean setting a new admin password for windows 7? Regards Mike View this thread

Running "C:windowssysWOW64WindowsPowerShellv1.0powershell_ise.exe" has the title "Windows PowerShell ISE (x86)" which should be the 64-bit version. BUT, 3. Doesn't (x86) stand for 32-bit and (x64) stand for 64-bit versions of programs? AND, 4. Neither "Windows PowerShell ISE" program's "Help" menu has an "About" item. SO, 5. Why are the titles not indicating the 32/64-bit version correctly? AND, 6. Which bit version of the "Windows PowerShell ISE" programs am I really running when I run 1 or 2 above? JPD View the thread

Hi All, I have an issue with the Windows Log In Screen unfortunately it does not happen everytime. The issue is this: When I wake up my laptop from sleep it displays my Windows 8 Log in background but does not show the clock or the notification and clicking on the background it does not go to the password prompt. I have to restart my laptop and then it works fine. This has happened often enough to become a nuisance especially when I have an urgent matter to take care of and I end up restarting the laptop instead. View the full article

Hello, I have a bunch of old computer lying around and I want to sell them. I have the xp home install cd that came with one of them so i am wondering if it would be illegal to use that cd on all the computers. From my research I learned that my cd has a built in product key and then on some forums it said it was illegal to use the same product key on more than one computer. If it is illegal then can I just change the product key to the one on the side of the computer? Please help View this thread

I have a pavilion g6 AMD 64x processor. I purchased this computer on October 16th, 2012. I upgraded to Windows 8 about two weeks ago. I deeply regret upgrading to Windows 8 and would not recommend it to anyone with this laptop until they fix the issues. My computer is seriously screwed up now and it is all because of Windows 8. I have contacted Microsoft 4 times about my updates stalling at 13%. Each time the updates are forced through and I am able to restart my computer without problems until a few days later when my computer tries to update again and then I am back to the original problem of not being able to update and stalling at 13%. This process takes HOURS until finally I get a message saying update failed, reverting changes.I have an error code - 800F0920. I am extremely frustrated and this is going to end up costing me a lot of money. The only reason I upgraded is because I had a promo code to upgrade free when I bought my computer. Now, this is going to cost because I am afraid I am going to have to purchase windows 7 and go back to that unless there is something someone can do to help. Here is what I have done so far to try and fix this problem: Uninstalled Norton, installed windows defender. Contacted Microsoft 4x, gained remote access and used command prompt to install updates and fix computer health Uninstalled AMD High definition audio devices, manually installed updates successfully audio devices re-installed on their own after updates. Refreshed my PC, re-downloaded all necessary software that was taken off of my computer after refreshing Attempted to manually install updates, but when computer needs to restart it again stalls at 13% Some of these solutions have worked for that time, but like I said, once the update comes up again in a couple days or even the next day the issues start all over. Got a new HP laptop with windows 8. It's been running great.. very fast start up time. The last auto Windows update (yesterday) took about a half hour to install and restart. My laptop was very slow after that.. almost like dial up (I have Hi Speed wireless.. 20mbps) I changed the settings and un-installed the latest update. That took just as long. But after that it has been running great again. But windows keeps giving me messages to change my settings back to keep up to date. Says it is very important to do this. What happens if I don't? I like the speed I have now.. and it does everything I need as is. Advice? View this thread

Windows 8 Pro X64 In Windows 7 Ultimate x64 if I start Task Manager by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting it it starts without any UAC prompt running in my security context. It is only if I click on show processes from all users that I get an UAC prompt for an administrator password. Windows 8 Pro X64 Internet Explorer 10 For security reasons I have turned off the automatic search from the address bar feature in IE 10. Is there some key combination to manually trigger a search from the address bar? IOW, I want to be able to type in a phrase and then trigger a search manually. I cannot have IE 10 automatically trigger a search if a mistype a URL. By the way, Ctrl-e does not work. With automatic search turned of try typing "Internet Explorer 10" into the address bar and pressing Ctrl-e. All it does is put a question mark followed by a space in front of the phrase. I have my computer tethered to my android smartphone (HTC Wildfire S) It works great...except it appears to be invisable! I just built this computer Windows 7 x64 asus motherboard intel i3 dual core processor lots of memory and other bells and whistles. You need for a new computer to have a visable internet connection, because all of your programs want to be updated... including windows update. I bought a broadband to go adapter for just such an emergency, but I'd like to get this fixed as I hate virgin mobile and their "unlimited plans". Help View this thread
