Where do I go?
Greetings my most excellent friends, Okay here's a real stupid question, please forgive me for needing to ask, but where do I go to view the questions that I've asked so as to afford me chance to reply to them? Ever so sincerely yours, Tiffany A. Snow esq. aka "Madam Forgetful" :) P.S. ala Bill & Ted, "Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes!" View the thread

instead of the lower left corner and I don't know how to get it back on the bottom
My son somehow relocated my taskbar from the bottom of my laptop screen to the left side of the screen. My START icon is now in the upper left corner instead of the lower left corner and I don't know how to get it back on the bottom. How do I get it back on the bottom where it goes? View the thread

How to turn on defender
I turned off windows defender and cannot figure out how to turn it back on. I have found Defender and when I start it I get the not so helpful message "Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer." Yep... knew that. How do I turn it on? Really guys, this should not be that difficult. LDW PS: I do not have any other anti-virus program installed. Defender was turned on and running. I turned it off at the suggestion of another post in this forum to see if that would correct the problem with an error in the Windows Experience Index. To add insult to injury, turning it off did not fix the WEI problem. View this thread

How to get to the Registry
I am currently downloading a different version of anti-virus software than the 30 day trial that was provided with my new computer. However, I haven't been able to as there is still some trace of the old program on the computer. I have uninstalled all components of the program from the control panel but want to check the registry to make sure that everything has been removed. 1. How do I get to the registry? 2. How do I delete the program from the registry (Norton)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. View the full article

Apps will not open
Hi, A couple of days ago certain apps stopped opening including store. I don't get any errors just the splash screen opens with the logo and closes again. I've tried changing the UAC settings, disabling AVAST, there isn't a problem with the screen resolution.Don't want to have to do a clean install and that will just be a hassle. I've also tried refresh but my laptop doesn't seem to refresh windows 8. It gets to the point where it asks me to insert the media with the installation file which I do but then it says it can't verify it. Anyone got any other suggestions? I'm currently using windows 8 pro. Thanks View the full article

Unable to delete virus even after reinstalling OS and completely formatting the hard disk
Hi, I am struggling to get rid of an unknown virus in my laptop from past one week. I have scanned my laptop with microsoft security essentials, malware bytes, hitman pro and none of them were able to detect the virus. I used TDSSKILLER.EXE and it detected a virus. The following are the details: Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit) Detected object count: 1 Actual detected object count: 1 C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - copied to quarantine HKLMSYSTEMControlSet001serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot HKLMSYSTEMControlSet002serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - will be deleted on reboot wltrysvc ( UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic ) - User select action: Delete But even the TDSSKILLER.EXE failed to remove the virus. My laptop has become very slow and I am unable to get rid of the virus. Please help me if there is any solution for this problem. My observations: 1. Whenever I have reinstalled the OS, I saw the following message immediately after boot: setup is updating registry settings 2. These are the suspicious processes I find in task manager: csrss.exe, atieclxx.exe, winlogon.exe (Suspicious since I am unable to find their location nor am I able to end these processes) 3. Getting an error code(0x80248014) when I try to update microsoft security essentials 4. I suppose its a rootkit since (a) For the first time when I tought my laptop was infected, I scanned my laptop using MSE and during the scan my system crashed and the CPU clock got changed. (b) I am unable to get rid of the virus even after reinstalling the OS and completely formatting my hard disk. View this thread

Windows 8 Power_Driver_State_Failure message
I have a new Asus Republic of Gamers laptop and immediately upgraded to Windows 8 . I downloaded a few programs and just ran the sigverif.exe program , which shows all my drivers are signed . However , I've been getting this error message consistently on boot up . Restarting the laptop takes forever , programs are running very slowly and my wifi keeps turning itself off , even though connections are available . There are no viruses on the computer either . I am not terribly tech savvy and most responses to similar posts have either been specific to other Windows versions , skipped steps in the troubleshooting process (for example, how do I effect a "minidump" and where is the corresponding log file stored?) , or else have been too technical for me to follow . Any assistance you can offer will be greatly appreciated . Thanks! View the full article

Can't Get Windows Defender To Update
I'm running Windows 8 with Windows Defender as the primary anti-virus program. I've been using it and updating it since launch without problems. Recently I got a popup saying I need to update my Defender. Whenever I click on update it loads for a bit and then says the update failed and that I need to check my network or internet connections. Error code: 0x80240022 Description mentions that Defender couldn't download definition updates. Might be caused by missing system file or an incorrect setting or a problem with the registry file. I haven't touched any of the settings on Defender since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8. View this thread

Windows 7 will not operate with MP Navigator Ex 2.12
I have a Canon Scanner LiDE 700F which was working fine until a couple months ago after an update from Microsoft. Now the program that is to be used with the scanner - MP Navigator Ex 2.12 does not work & I keep getting an error message advising that the program does not respond and will close down and Windows sends an error report and will advise if they find a solution. What I would like to know is there another program that I can use with this scanner instead of the MP Navigator Ex 2.12 as Microsoft has not come up with a solution? I am very annoyed with Microsoft and all the so-called updates that I receive and then interferes with other equipment or programs already installed. Windows 7 OS - Canon LiDE 700F Scanner - MP Navigator Ex 2.12 which came with the scanner. View the thread

Repair Cure?
I had to take my computer in to have the Trojan:32/alueron removed at office depot because I could not get the windows defender offline that I had downloaded to work. Office depot made quite a few changes to my computer including adding, it seems, a team viewer. I have not given them permission to share anything on my computer, and I would like to remove the team viewer. However, I can't find it in my programs, I can only find changes made to my computer using it after my repair. Also, since the repair when I browse around 15 times an hour I am hit with Trojan:JSMedfos.B severe. Can you help me with this? I don't think this was a cure. My computer never got virus' like this before the repair. View this thread

Java/CVE-2011-3544.NF
Hello, A few weeks ago MSE picked up Exploit: java /CVE- 2010-0094.BL Exploit: java/CVE-2010-084.AJ Trojan:Java/MESDE. Upon researching the virus found that best idea was to delete Java from my system which I have done. Last night upon completing a full scan of my computer MSE again picked up Java/CVE-2011-3544.NF. Then ran Microsoft Safety Scanner to ensure that it was gone. Did more research and it seems that this strain of virus can also be picked up just by visiting a site and not clicking on a link. Big clue that something was wrong yesterday was the blacking out of web pages when mouse scrolling. Scroll up and page view would return. Questions: -- Is it possible that this virus is not being completely removed from my system and is hiding a small packet in my memory as is suggested by some in the numerous articles about this virus. If so, outside of doing a reinstall, is there a way to detect pieces of stowaways such as this? -- And, besides keeping my temp files cleaned and deleting history when I close my browser, what else can I do? What kind of damage is this virus doing to my computer? Can it spread to my back-up drive and thumb-drives? Thank you! View this thread
