I want upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. While upgrading the upgrade assistant is asking for "Promo Code". What is the "Promo Code" and how could i get it? View this thread

The WindowsUpdate for Windows 7 doesn't function properly, I have set it to automatically update, performed a computer new start and 30 minutes later there is a PC-Problem saying that WindowsUpdate is deactivated. I have also attempted thru services.msc and then I get a error code 0x8007277a and the process is discontinued. I need help, who can help me? View this thread

upgraded to windows 8 and am happy with that, also many useful apps one of which the aforementioned multimedia 8 .it has captured all my installed music and displays all well complete with album covers and each individual song title .....but the screen goes black when a record is selected ,,nothing will play ??what do I need to get this app to work well ?? Hi I have recently upgraded my PC to windows 8, but unable to access a number of the titles, apart from IE & MAP. I get no error message or connect issues (can access internet via desktop). All titles load and I get the screen change & dotted circle but none of the tiles load beyond that point. This is a new upgrade and I have been unable to get these elements to work at all. I keep getting the same updates installing every time I shut down the computer. I dont get any error messages and they seem to install fine each time. They are the following security updates: KB 2604121,KB2656368,KB2686827,KB2729449,KB2737019. I tried using the "Fix It" program and it did fix some things but the updates still continue to install every time I shut down. Any help would be appreciated. View this thread

Should the updates take so long. I am unable to use my laptop when updates are being installed. The updates are getting stuck at 13% and I cant reboot the system. Very frustrating. Would be grateful of your advise. View this thread

The title says it all, I do not get an icon in the notification area, and it is not hidden. If I open the program from the start menu it shows as running and the status. How do I rectify this? View this thread

I am Andrew Rozentsvayg, an electronical engineer. In early October, I bought a Samsung laptop NP350V5C CPU i-7 3610QM, RAM 8GB (DDR3) with Windows 7. I installed the necessary software and had no problems. But it had hardware problems and laptop was replaced by a similar but with Windows 8. Now I have other problems - many professional programs are not working properly or immediately generate an error and closes (Xilinx design tools).Control Panel option works under Windows 7 not successful. In addition - the option of the two systems (+ Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) is not working. In this regard, please provide me the option for reinstalling and use of Windows 7. View this thread

My son somehow relocated my taskbar from the bottom of my laptop screen to the left side of the screen. I turned off windows defender and cannot figure out how to turn it back on. I have found Defender and when I start it I get the not so helpful message "Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer." Yep... knew that. How do I turn it on? Really guys, this should not be that difficult. LDW PS: I do not have any other anti-virus program installed. Defender was turned on and running. I turned it off at the suggestion of another post in this forum to see if that would correct the problem with an error in the Windows Experience Index. I am currently downloading a different version of anti-virus software than the 30 day trial that was provided with my new computer. However, I haven't been able to as there is still some trace of the old program on the computer. I have uninstalled all components of the program from the control panel but want to check the registry to make sure that everything has been removed. 1. How do I get to the registry? 2. I get the following error message when I click on Windows Media Player: "The file wmp.dll has a version number of 11.0.5721.5280 where 11.0.5721.5268 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled." I have downloaded Windows Media Player version 11 for XP twice, and I still get the same message. Hi, A couple of days ago certain apps stopped opening including store. I don't get any errors just the splash screen opens with the logo and closes again. I've tried changing the UAC settings, disabling AVAST, there isn't a problem with the screen resolution.Don't want to have to do a clean install and that will just be a hassle. I've also tried refresh but my laptop doesn't seem to refresh windows 8. It gets to the point where it asks me to insert the media with the installation file which I do but then it says it can't verify it. Anyone got any other suggestions? Hi, I am struggling to get rid of an unknown virus in my laptop from past one week. I have scanned my laptop with microsoft security essentials, malware bytes, hitman pro and none of them were able to detect the virus. I used TDSSKILLER.EXE and it detected a virus. The following are the details: Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit) Detected object count: 1 Actual detected object count: 1 C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - copied to quarantine HKLMSYSTEMControlSet001serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot HKLMSYSTEMControlSet002serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - will be deleted on reboot wltrysvc ( UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic ) - User select action: Delete But even the TDSSKILLER.EXE failed to remove the virus. My laptop has become very slow and I am unable to get rid of the virus. Please help me if there is any solution for this problem. My observations: 1. Whenever I have reinstalled the OS, I saw the following message immediately after boot: setup is updating registry settings 2. These are the suspicious processes I find in task manager: csrss.exe, atieclxx.exe, winlogon.exe (Suspicious since I am unable to find their location nor am I able to end these processes) 3. Getting an error code(0x80248014) when I try to update microsoft security essentials 4. I suppose its a rootkit since (a) For the first time when I tought my laptop was infected, I scanned my laptop using MSE and during the scan my system crashed and the CPU clock got changed. I would like to know, what % of CPU usage to set my full scan @ to recieve results in the fastest amount of time.I set the scan 4 2,3am. & if I allot 10% CPU usage, or ,90% usage -which allotment will finish first?the PC is not in use @ that time .
