  1. I entered the product key and the error message read "the product key used to activate Windows on your PC is a volume license key that has been blocked by Microsoft." What can I do now? Is this a way Microsoft forces me into purchasing Windows 7 or is it 8? BaltimoreCurtis View this thread
  2. Ccleaner has found numerous times an unused file ext. . thats right a single dot. there is no location, or hkey, just a dot it cannot remove it and is the only one that discovers it and has for a year (when i downloaded) query if the dot is followed by eg. exe or somethng else it no longer is an unused file ext. is it. since everything is . followed by something is there a way to remove this dot without affecting other programs Ccleaner has tried and it doesnt work. the is no file to be found and no info other than (unused file ext. .) nothing more to go on. could this be a malignant virus... When I run the Aero Themes trouble shooter it says Windows Desktop Manager Is Disabled, when I try to turn it on it will not let me. I have tried to restart it and that doesnt work. I have checked and my laptop should be able to run Aero views. 4. I have some DRM protected files saved to an external drive. I disconnected that drive whilst watching one of those protected files (wmv) and now I can't open any of the other DRM protected wmv files on that drive. I can open the one(s) I had been watching. It is as if the drive has remembered the username / password for those open files and won't let me use the same credentials to open new files. I have shut down, restarted, disconnected drive etc. No use ! Help please. XP Pro 32 bit with Windows Media Player 11. View this thread
  5. On a fresh install of Windows 8, windows file explorer is already pinned to the task bar on the desktop. I accidently unpinned this icon and now I cannot get it back. The logical way to do this is to go to the start screen, right click file explorer and choose the 'Pin to taskbar', but for some reason I don't get this option for file explorer. I can pin lots of other desktop applications, but just not file explorer. I work mostly from the desktop so it's really annoying to have to flick back to the start screen every time I want to start file explorer. Thinking I must be going mad, I tried the same thing on the Windows Server 2012 desktop and now I have exactly the same problem there!! View the full article
  6. Windows xp sp3, build 2600, x86, system 32. Cannot defrag because there is only 2% free space on C (74.4 Gb capacity). Looking for files to delete and finding the size of files, I find Windows itself is using 67.2 Gb of space! That can't be correct. How do I correct this so I can defrag? View this thread
  7. I had a windows 7 computer and I had issues with it that ended up being a hardware issue. I replaced it and my hard drive was completely wiped. Now I do not have my Windows 7 that I had. I have a trial but its running out and I really need my operating system. Is their anything you guys can do for me maybe give me a new key or something? View the thread
  8. My PC recently became infected with a Trojan Hider, I am in the process of attempting to fully remove the malware and have recovered much functionality that was initially lost such as access to forums/virus software/microsoft. However, in the process of my attempt at repair my desktop wallpaper was blacked out and replaced with the message 'your copy of windows is not genuine'. On restart I am asked to re-enter my product key. I have just obtained my product key and went to input it Control Panel > System but the bottom section just says Product ID: Not Available with no input option. The error code on start up is 0xC004F014 which I know is telling me there is no product installed. What I am unclear about is: 1) Is this error likely to be a result of my human error in trying to resolve the virus issue (without necessarily knowing what I'm doing) 2) Is it likely to be a symptom of the virus 3) Should I reactivate Windows with my genuine product key and if so, how? Thanks in advance View the thread

  21. I was playing with a system utility program and decided I didn't like it so I uninstalled. Several days went by before I noticed anything wrong. Now my window update buttons are missing from start/all programs/windows update, and Internet explorer/tools/windows update. When I do a windows update I get a error message "windows update was disabled by your system administrator". If I set update to automatic it works just fine. I have preferred to do windows update manually so it doesn't interrupt me wile I am doing something. I have been in contact with the software tech support and they tell me to do virus scans. I ran malwarebytes, didn't find anything. Kaspersky did find some problems and cleaned them off. I've been in contact with Kaspersky tech forum and they give me a clean bill of health. Neither of the two seem to be much help to fix the problem. I can't know this but I don't think what ever Kaspersky found in my firefox cache caused this. Can you help me fix this?
