I have a brand new HP Pavilion g6 with Windows 8. Today, I turned it on, and it went directly to a screen that said "Configuring Windows Updates. 1%. Do not turn off your computer." It stopped at 12% and did not change for a very long time, so I looked online and found out that I'm not the only one with this problem. I turned off my computer, turned it back on, and got into safe mode. Hello my problem is that my icons are "on" some older icons, what i mean is that when i kill the explorer.exe process you can see the icons i had on 28/10 and also the programs on taskbar, so everytime i start my computer i see my icons overlaying the icons i had on that date, if anyone can tell me how to fix this problem i would aprecciate it very much. I don't know if this was one of the recent updates from Microsoft or not, but I keep getting a pop up for the Media Gallery installation on my Sony VAIO laptop. It compiles the Media Gallery then afterwards it asks for a CD, which I don't have, for the installation. This thing never goes away, no matter how many times I click 'cancel'. I keep getting a warning that my Microsoft Security Essesntials is potentially unprotected. It states that I have not updated current virus and spyware threats although I have automatic updates selected plus I manually update them. I have uninstalled and re-installed MIcrosoft Security Essentials but the problem continues. I do not have any other anti virus on my computer. The only strange thing I see is that it states "last updated 12.30.2012" which is a month away. Please advise how I can fix this problem. Thank you. View this thread

My updates just wont update automatically and the little icon says that windows can't check for updates and an error keeps coming up code number: 8024402F. I have tried to reset the automatic section but it just wont download updates automatically. I'm on Vista Home Premium and am also on all the latest browers like IE9 etc. Driving me insane. Can anyone help? I just would like to know why this is doing it saying that everything is normal and ok but when I check for updates it comes back with this message. HI, At each reboot (or so it seems) I am presented with an optional update entitled: Canon - Printers - Canon MX350 series FAX Download size: 18.3 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional Canon Printers software update released in April, 2012' This has been appearing only in recent weeks, and I have had the printer for longer than 12 months (reference to date of update). It has downloaded, and installs on agreement (or so it seems), yet a subsequent reboot shows it has not, as it is listed again as an optional update. Canon has previously recommended uninstalling all printer drivers for this printer and then reinstalling including this for similar issues...a very long process. Is there a direct link (?) Hi y'all, This my first time around w/Win 7/Premium. So far it looks pretty solid, I am wondering if the update: Windows Essential, SP1 Windows Defender security is all need for security, does it have a Anti-Virus built in? Or is it absolutely necessary to purchase & install another anti-virus (Norton or Kaspersky)? I have a new Kaspersky software disk that came with my refurbished PC, but I am a little concerned that it will cause a conflict w/OEM security & slow down my downloads..etc since it has to check every single thing that comes in, & goes out. Can anybody tell me what my risks are just keeping my OEM W/7 w/win.def. as security. (I have always had past problems w/anti-virus software.) I'm starting to wonder M-soft must have built some anti-virus software in their Win7 which they designed so well. Could the well known big anti-virus software makers be using scare-tactics to force their product on us, & giving a kick-back to M-soft for every antivirus program sold? I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy nut, I just wonder if I really need to go plunk down another 200$ on top of my brand new PC w/supposedly the best O.S yet. My question is this. What is the difference between the 7-zip rar files and when I use the compressed (zipped) folder selection on a file? What's the rar files for? I rarely send zipped files. I used to have WinZip on my old computer. My generic office PC tower computer has XP Pro, SP3, Office 2003. (By the way, awhile back I upgraded to Office 2007 but found it totally lame and went back to 2003). A few reciepents of some PDF architectural building plan files say they cannot open my files when I send them with 7-zip. These are sometimes 30-60 page pdf building plans. Please explain. I have a HDCP compliant setup - but when I have hyper-v installed, my compliance is broken. PowerDVD's BD Advisor fails, as well as the Digital Cable Advisor built into media center... both say my video card fails. Turning off hyper-v restores full HDCP playback. I have purchased and downloaded but not installed the Win 8 Pro upgrade, I am presently running Win 7 64. The Win Upgrade Assistant gave the choice of Install now, Install by Creating Media, or Install Later from your desktop. I chose the latter, and the Install Windows shortcut is now on the desktop. I have since learned that a Win 8 dual-boot cannot be done if installed through Windows. Can this upgrade version be used to dual boot?
