I was trying to watch a movie and could hear the music but the speech is so so quiet we can't hear what they are saying. We are running vista if that helps. Does anyone know how to fix this please? Also, we were able to watch movies through the pc to the tv when we attached an HDMI cable. The picture goes to the tv, but there is no sound and the pc has no visual. Hi: I was trying to clear out then import the contact information in my Windows Mail Contacts Gadget. (It had not populated relative to my new list of imported email contacts.) Well, the Contact Gadget was deleted. I tried finding it on Microsoft's web page, so that I could download and reinsatll it, but the web page said something to the effect that only Windows 7 Gadgets were now being supported. Is there anyway or any place from where I can download this gadget. I have tried some Google searching, but so far have not found anyyhing. Thank you DaleB View this thread

I've just upgraded to Windows 8 and am finding my way around. This seems like a very basic question to ask but here goes .... Previously if I wanted to scan a file for viruses I would right click and choose "Scan with MSE". I can't do this in Windows 8 I had assumed that it would come up in the same way with "Scan with Defender" but it doesn't. So how do I scan a file for viruses? View this thread

Windows update has been returning an error code for Cumulative Update for IE 9. All other updates are successful. It've tried the Fix It three times and disable the Malware and Fire Wall to no avail. In Windows Update I got error 0x8007f0da and I tryed to start "cryptsvc" (Cryptographic service) to correct the problem (advice in this forum) but it gives me code 0x00000437 and 0x00000426 (cryptsvc do not start). Any knowledge how to correct this? Jape View this thread

I have tried Hotfix, Microsoft Fix Man & lots of other fixes that were listed on here, including the Readiness one. I have tried installing updates one by one, the they all fail ! got 2 times a failure of the update for eu browser choice, after failure a 15 minutes rollback occured, and after rebooting the process starts all over. I now disabled automatic update, but that can not be the sollution. Can i disable this update? or is there a solution View this thread

Ever since loading this "crtical" update the Find Text (usually Ctrl+F) box keeps initialising on my PC, and the annoying thing is the cursor goes into the text box on this Find Text screen. Even restoring to a point before I loaded it doesn't help as soon after it loads itself again, usually within about 20 mins. So while I may have my current session free of the dam Find Text box for some of the time, at the next time I start up it has re-appeared. So during my "clean" session the problem with the Find Text box is not there, but I can see from the Update History that it does, in fact, re-load itself and the problem returns. Even un-installing doesn't work, also making the update Hidden after the restore doesn't work. So the fault definitely lies with this update. Is there some way, any way, I can completely purge this update from my PC ?? I'm running Win 7 32bit View this thread

An SSD primary drive has about half of its space free, but once in a while Windows 8 suddenly gives a Low Disk Space warning. The properties window of the drive shows it has little free space left, but this is wrong. The following screenshot of Folder Size shows only 82.81GB is used, but the properties of the drive (C:) show that 167.10GB is used. Rebooting the computer will fix this. I created a custom system image by creating a directory "C:Refreshimage" and typing "recimg -Createimage C:Refreshimage" All from an elevated prompt. The system created a file "CustomRefresh.wim" in that directory. Later I searched "refresh", went to "settings","Troubleshoot","Advanced options", "System Image Recovery". I was still having problems with my windows live messenger so I did a through cleaning of my computer for viruses and and anything else that might be corrupted and then I let a friend "fix" it believing him when he said he could. windows Media Player worked fine before he touched it and now it won't respond the same way. I also use Firefox as my main browser just to mention that so if anyone else who uses that engine might be able to help or does that matter at all for that player. he worked for 5 hours trying to get it to work right again but has finally given up. it also seems that every site that I thought might help ended up being for vista or windows 7-8. the windows media player does work just that I have to do a bunch of click on this and then that and then play.
