I'm having some strange issues with Windows 8 Pro and it's sleep settings. My desktop will randomly wake itself up and not go back to sleep so I come into the office in the morning and it's been running for I don't know how long. It will go to sleep for at least an hour before waking itself back up. It also locks the screen after only a few minutes even though I don't have it set to. I think this has something to do with it syncing settings from my Surface tablet but I can't find anything in the settings to confirm this. Vincent Sprague View the full article

I am going to install a new hard drive on my Computer, Its an ET1161-01 I have all my info on a hard drive that uses a USB port, will I be able to reboot using this device ? I was told that not all computers will reboot using an outside USB drive. thanks for your help View the thread

Im trying to set up a wi-fi router and it would not let me to the Ciscoconnect software coz they need me to update my windows vista service pack 1. I have been doing the installation many times and said successful but still want me to update the same again.. does anyone have any idea with this? hope somebody could help me..thank u! GOD YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY!!! Now when I do alt f I get a whole bunch of junk I don't need, but wait, I can still right click on the view and say new folder... Could you make me any more inefficient? You really need a mode for your os's like power user, where a power user is someone who knows how to use a keyboard. You got rid of the start menu but the first thing everyone that works for you does is goes and installs a 3rd party start menu... what a joke. Having an issue that is kind of annoying and confusing to me. If I boot my Windows 8 machine with DHCP disabled, Metro IE10 does not work. It will tell me that I don't have an internet connection. Windows 8 then complains of an issue with the network connection (but then fails to identify it). Meanwhile, IE10 from the desktop works fine. As soon as I enable and start DHCP (Network Location Awareness + Network List Service start with it) Metro IE10 works. If I stop DHCP again, Metro IE10 continues to work. Only after a reboot with DHCP Disabled does this happen. I am using a static configuration. One thing I noticed as well is that when I leave DHCP on, it slowly takes over my static IP config. Eventually it removes all of my static IP config and my connection stops working entirely. I left it with DHCP on over night and when I came in this morning I had no Network Adapter. I had to reboot. I just set up a fresh second workstation (Windows 8 "ready") and the same exact thing happens. These machines are VERY different physically. It hasn't declared war on my network adapter yet. i use windows 8 pro... there are many updates which require a restart to finish installation... these are already downloaded and every time system restarts, windows takes 15 minutes to install those updates and configures till 98%,.. later i get a message saying 'failure configuring updates' and it reverts changes... i lose at-least another 45 minutes... really fed up... does anyone have a solution to this problem? I made a booboo. Win 7, 64 Bit sys with, IE 10 release Preview, and service for 5. Will the wrong service pack 1 do frightening things inside of my poor PC? I don't see how old DELL could take much more of my being it's worst enemy... Is this correctable, or can I expect to see a hideous crash? View this thread

I can not install .Net 3.5 on my windows 8 pro. I have tried to go through: 1. Enable windows features 2. Windows Update when I try to install an application that requires 3.5 3. The DISM command with a local image: dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:G:sourcessxs /LimitAccess 4. The full .Net 3.5 installer package And yes I have checked my internet connection. Als ik de SSD in Schijfbeheer een drive letter wil geven, zegt Vista dat ik de schijf eerst moet initialiseren. Formatteren van de SSD lukt ook niet. Daarbij zegt Vista dat de schijf tegen schrijven in beschermd. Ik heb op advies van Samsung in de BIOS de SATA-mode (SA2) op AHCI gezet. Hoe krijg ik mijn SSD als gewone drive te zien? Just upgraded my Dell Inspiron (4 months old) to Win 8 Pro. I wanted to take advantage of the free Media Pack upgrade, but am unable to do so because there are 4 updates that refuse to work: KB2770041 KB2768703 KB2769165 KB2770917 In looking at other posts, I see that this is not an uncommon problem. I have tried installing the individual components to these updates, and they all fail as well. I tried the approach of using msconfig to disable all the non-MS services first (and rebooting, of course), but that didn't work. Having spent a good 4 hours trying, I am simply giving up and am hoping to get feedback from Microsoft about how to make this happen. Anyone have any other suggestions? View this thread

I am trying to install updates on a Vista Home Premium reinstall that is updated to SP2. I keep receiving a 800B0100 error code. I ran the fix for the error code but still receive the same error. Computer was working fine until I made a change in settings for the Wireless Adapter I had connected. The screen when black & I couldn't do anything. I restarted the computer, pushed the F10 button, had the choice of recovery solutions, chose System Recovery without losing data, recovery successful, clicked on "Next" to choose country & cursor is frozen. Tried another mouse & keyboard, same thing, tried changing batteries in mouse, same thing. Have tried restarting, gets to the choose country screen & freezes. View this thread

I just did an upgrade on my Toshiba from 7 to 8 and now I can't do the upgrades that have been downloaded. Has Microsoft created a utility to take care of this. I have all the files mentioned in another post in the windows/servicing/packages subdirectory but don't feel like messing thing up even more by trying to delete them. Going back to 7 seems like the best solution at this time. An easy to understand solution would be nice. View this thread

I cannot update Windows. I keep getting error code 80244019. I downloaded Windows fix-it, and it detected problems, fixed them, and Windows still would not update.
