Hi all. In event viewer i saw an unexplained item that shows up almost every hour. This has been there for about a week and am unable to find an answere or definition. It is as follows::: event viewer/ system/ WARNING/ 18/12/2012/ 3:49:02/ MFEHIDK/ catagory (256)/ event 516/ user n/a/ Is this a bug or virus? Help would be appreciated. thanks View this thread

I have an external monitor hooked up to my laptop. The problem is that my computer seems to think the second monitor that's hooked up to the computer is the main monitor. I've tried changing the monitors so that the laptop's monitor is the main one. It still doesn't work though... How do I fix this problem? I'm running Windows Vista. Due to a unresolvable issue, I had to reformat my hard drive. I have down loaded and installed Service Pack 1, but I'm unable to download any further updates. I keep receiving Service Pack 1 just as I never installed it. Please advise. View this thread

Okay, for almost 2 months I have been unable to access my computer. When I put my Live account information to log in it tells me that my password or username is incorrect. I went on my Iphone and changed my password and when I tried to log in it still told me that it is incorrect even though I can log in with other computers. Please help me. Hello everybody, I’m facing some trouble with Windows 8 Pro and USB disks in NTFS Everything works fine (reading, copying files) until I disconnect my disk: it still appears in the explorer and the devices manager The explorer starts going crazy as it still seems to try accessing it… After some time, all the Explorer processes running hang and I must reboot (hard reset as soft stays blocked on Windows closing) The issue occurs with USB keys, external hard drives or via docking stations but only for devices formatted in NTFS. The same key formatted in FAT32 works fine and can be disconnected with no trouble. I got the issue disconnecting the disk or ejecting it ‘properly’ I got an X79 chipset the motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3 and all its drivers are up to date. Here are a few tests I’ve performed: - Process hanging also appears with the management console if I try to uninstall the USB keys drivers (with the key connected) - After disconnecting my NTFS USB key, no new USB devices connected are recognized. They don’t appear in devices manager and if I try a ‘Scan for Hardware change’ the process stays stuck - I’ve tried to check with ProcessExplorer (sysinternals) if any process was using the file handle associated to my key before disconnecting it but nothing. ProcessExplorer stays stuck if I make another after the disconnection. - Issue also occurs in Safe mode where (normally) only generic drivers are loaded Any suggestions are welcome ^^ Thanks, Tchouty View the full article

I have downloaded the file itTunessetup.exe, but when I try to run the installation, I keep getting the same message 'network error when trying to read from C:WindowsInstalleriTunes.msi' I am at a loss to understand this - I am not much of a PC expert either. I own an HP a6703a Pavilion. Garden variety, running VISTA HOME PRE. I have tried runing a chkdsk /v /f from the command line ( of course ). I am running XP and Microsoft Security Essentials. I ran a full scan from my admin account a few hours ago, but when I sign in to my normal account, it says I am unprotected as I "haven't run a scan in a while", even though the MSE home page lists the last scan as just a few hours ago. I was online and an alert came up from Microsoft Security Essentials that a severe threat had been detected. I clicked on my security icon and it was spinning/searching. When it stopped, I clicked on the scan history and it said that the malware could not be located but the result said that the threat had been removed. I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD COMPUTER TO USE TO EXPORT THE CONTACTS!!! I ONLY HAVE THE .IDX FILES. I have a copy of the .idx files from a computer that was running outlook express. The computer has crashed. Got a phone call from a man claiming to be with Microsoft Live. Said a problem report from my computer to Microsoft showed that I had a trojan virus and they wanted me to allow them to do a live fix. This sounds bogus to me, but gave me the number 315/277-9899 to call to verify and said to look under Windows Live Support to verify them. It sounds Fishy, and they keep calling. I have Norton Anti-Virus on my system and thought that would catch any trojan viruses, but had one a couple of years ago that actually deleted Norton from my programs. It was months before I caught that it wasn't updating and went and looked and Norton had been uninstalled from my system. So I am kind of paranoid that Norton might not catch everything. When I turned on my computer today, the MSE icon was displaying orange. I opened MSE and was advised my computer may be at risk. It then told me that "You haven't done a Full scan lately" (or something like that) and advised that I do one. Then I noticed that the weekly scan had been completed yesterday morning as scheduled. Just to be safe, I ran another scan today, just to check if something had snuck in last night when I was online. Today's scan was clean and the icon displayed green. My old XP has run its Network Wizard, and it's prepared to share a drive and a printer. My new 7 (not prpared for a "Home Network") is able, via my explicit \ coding, to map the XP disk correctly. However, when I add a new printer (XP's) to 7, it searches the network (direct EtherNet cabling), finds the shared printer, and then refuses to complete the process because "a spooler is not started/running". I searched the indexes of both of my Dummies books (XP & 7), and I find no reference to the term 'spooler' in any context. What is 7 looking for, and where can I find it?
