I have used all trouble shooter suggestions and automatic fixes to try and download my windows updates with no luck at all. I get the "Fixed proble" check mark when runing the trouble shooter for the error codes but still can't download windows updates????? View this thread

I am having trouble with some of the features on windows 8. Although I have an O2 connection, I can access my email and google etc however on some of the windows 8 features it says that I am offline in the top right corner. Hi, I have problems with the updates in a Win7 x64 Enterprise system. There are two updates missing that can not be installed, telling error code 80070490, therefore I downloaded the tool to fix it. It has been installed but the error remains... it was set in the solution for that problem that I have to repair the system with an inplace upgrade. First it looked nice, Win7 collected the data... but after a period of 7 hours working on it, the upgrade programm said "problems with the upgrade, no upgrade available"... Then I checked the registry integrity and ccleander found a problem with wuaucpl.cpl.. therefore I checked the system files and I found out that some of the windows update agent files are missing: cdm.dll wuaucpl.cpl wucltui.dll wuweb.dll can I fix that problem? Is there a standalone win update agent 256 download available (I could not found any by my searches)? My admin tells me to completely start with a fresh system, but I do not want to lose all my unique settings... It would be great if one could give me a hint to fix the error and the update agent, too (perhaps it is the same problem). Thanks a lot, Whitepointer View this thread

"Failure to configure windows updates. Reverting changes" I just brought a new laptop today and was in the process of installing a number of windows updates (for Windows 8). However every time I do this the updates get to around 15% and I get the message above (When I look at my update history it appears that around 45 updates failed to install). I followed the advice giving by your engineers on the 7th of November (re altering options via "msconfig") but this does not appear to work. Can you help please? View this thread

Hi, my sound doesn't work anymore, windows display a red X, and when I click on it, It tries to find an answer but It just tells me "Audio is disabled"... I already tried everything : Reinstalling audio drivers, checking the bios, etc... But I managed to find the problem : Windows update...When I do a system recover from before the windows update, the sound works again I disabled all automatic updates to prevent my sound from breaking again, but it seems now that windows will force the update without asking me...And of course the sound is broken when I boot my computer again, and I have to do a system recover from before the update, and then the sound will work If anyone did have this problem, and solved it that would be really cool to have an anwser, I've been in this situation for 1month now, and it's really annoying, thanks :) View this thread

I would like to know where I can find a driver to use my 'one touch x310e alcatel' internet key in my new tablet that is running WINDOWS 8. I have never been any problem using this internet usb key in my netbook, as my netbook runs windows xp. The internet key is compatible up to WINDOWS 7 32/64. Every time I successfully logged in to the Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, when I try to shut down or restart it won't work, but hibernate is working. I just reset my windows only, and after activated and installed windows update caused my shut down or restart totally not working. Tried Uncheck the box titled &quotTurn on fast startup (recommended). (NOT WORKING, still unable to shut down or restart) Tried &quotbcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes&quot in command prompt using administrator won't work! Tried &quotshutdown.exe -s -t 0 &quot in command prompt also not working, after popup shutdown.exe, and display nothing :( Any other solution? I can't even shut down for few days, just using hibernate, and I don't want to refresh windows or reset windows again, due to I lazy to reinstall software + games again. I got Win8 Media Center and installed it fine and no problems on that score (with the exception of the fact that I think requiring a separate Key for it than is required for Win8 has made things idiotically complex. For instance, my present Media Center key expires 2/1/13 or so. What happens if I need to do another install of the OS after that date? It does not appear that Media Center will be able to follow me cleanly--and I *hope* Microsoft will be coughing up a key that works when I need it.) What was surprising about Win8 MC in a negative sense was the fact that certain Fox DVDs utilize a playback format that seems to require DVD playback through Media Player, which Windows 8 does not seem to provide even with the full-fledged Media Center installation. This would have been a cake-walk with Win7. I've had to install VLC on top of Media Center to get those DVDs to work (there was no DVD firmware/region issue, etc.) This seems a simple case of a codec Win8 Media Center doesn't have being found in a gnu-licensed share-ware/free-ware/open-source 22mb DVD player. VLC does a great job, though, I have to say, so in a sense I'm glad Microsoft forced me into that route. You think Microsoft is going to correct this in a future Win8 patch of some kind? I work for a non-profit, and while I prefer Win8 our policy is to install Windows 7 Ent on everything. We recently bought 3 new systems with Windows 8 pre-installed (Acer CX600). I can not get Windows 7 to install! Is this even possible, or do we need to return the system? View the full article
