Hi everyone, I have recently installed Windows 8 (RTM) and noticed that it generates thumbnail cache files locally (&quotThumbs.db&quot file created in the local folder, as it used to be with Windows XP) instead of keeping the thumbnail caching features centralized as was the case with Windows Vista/7 (e.g. in the %LocalAppData%MicrosoftWindowsExplorer folder for Windows 7). Is there any way to change the thumbnail caching feature backed to a centralized fashion (e.g. by keeping some thumbcache*.db files somewhere in the user folder)? Some registry values changes, maybe? Just a couple of things: I am talking about a LOCAL folder (no network share with write access) and I do not want to disable thumbnail caching or to hide system files as some people might suggest. I have a projector with an HDMI input. I ran a cable from my Windows Vista pc video card from the DVI output to the HDMI input of my projector. Windows will not recognize it and the projector wont recognize that there is an output signal on the DVI port. I plugged my regular LCD monitor in the same port and it works fine. The problem is that for my regular LCD monitor i want to use the RGB connection and use the DVI for my projector. Can someone help ? View this thread

After I open an email in my Windows Mail (Vista) then close it, the next day when I look for it the email is gone. I looked in, &quotDelete,&quot &quotOut Box,&quot etc. They have just disappeared!????? I am having a video problem with my Sony Vaio Laptop Model VPCEB490X that I just installed Windows 8 Pro on (Core I-5, 8 GB Ram, 320 Solid State Drive, ATI Mobility Readeon 5650, upgraded from Windows 7 Pro). Video will not play except in VLC. I have tried the following programs: Cyberlink Power DVD 12 Corel WinDVD Pro 11 Corel WinDVD 10 and Nero 12. None of these programs will play either a DVD, a Bluray or video encoded as a Media Center file. Further, Media Center does not play any video either. All these programs do is play the audio. The only programs that do work with video and audio are Real Player using its own format, Itunes using its own format, VLC media player (but no Bluray support) and Netflix in either a browser window or in Media Center. I have reinstalled my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Series drivers from the Sony support site (as instructed by AMD) and the newest AMD Control Catalyst program from AMD. Plus I have also installed these drivers for Windows 7 compatibility and as the administrator as some have suggested. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Media Center as suggested by Microsoft. However, nothing works to get a Bluray or DVD to play in these programs or windows video to play in either Media Center or Metro under the video app. Any suggestions to fix this problem? I've been getting this error message about a duplicate name existing when I boot up. I've read the fixes for this, but what I'm wondering is.. Assuming the 'Duplicate Name' is another computer, are we linked in any way other than by name and network? I want to know if Name2 (the other) is aware of Name1 (me) as far as keystrokes, passwords, browsing history, etc.? Does the possibility exist for one name to 'spy' on the other? - I'm on a house wireless network. Since the error messages have begun, a quirk has arrived with them.. many times I have to left-click a button a second time and wait 1-2 seconds, whereas before, a single left-click brought an immediate response. I have downloaded office 10 three times and none will open. They start to open and I click for it to and then nothing. I hate window 8 already. Hello, Windows updates continues to download and install this update succesfully" for the past three months. My update history shows this has been installed at least 20 times already yet windows update continues to download and install this update. I keep getting prompted that Windows needs to install updates. I restart and update and I get the following messages: "Configuring Windows Update" which gets to 100% "Failure configuring Windows Updates Reverting changes..." (it does this twice) So I uninstalled my Trend Micro Titanium virus program and turned on Windows Defender and tried again, the results were exactly the same. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter, it reported the following: Detecting problems... "Problems found: Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x800700D Fixed Windows Update compnents must be repaired Fixed" I then ran Windows Update, it states the following: Most recent check for updates: Never Updates were installed: Never You receive updates: For Windows and other products from Microsoft Updae "Windows could not search for new updates There was a problem checking for updates. Error(s) found: Code 8024A000 Windows Update ran into a problem." The computer is about 5 months old. It came pre-installed with Windows 7. I upgraded about 10 days ago to Windows 8. I'm not sure if I've ever successfully updated since that time and it was shortly after that I started having these issues. Here is my system information: Internet Exlorer 10, Version: 10.0.9200.16466, Update Versions: 10.0.1 (KB2761465) Windows 8 Pro, 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor Windows is activated When I view my Installed Updates, I see 18 updates.
