my PC is set to automatically update, but i found i still had to update windows defender manually, even after troubleshooting and app: having the problem fixed ? yet even after the update and doing a full scan, the boarder is still yellow and stating that my PC's Status is still potentially unprotected ?? So, I'm at a loss as to where to go now. Please can somebody help. View this thread

Two years ago I downlooaded and installed Vista Service Pack 1. The installation file, a self-extracting stub, is still on my desktop. It is using about 0.6 gig of space on my hard drive. Can I safely delete it? View this thread

Hi, I just installed windows 8 and I am experiencing some weird problem, the explorer keeps crashing and restarting randomly with no specific reason and most of the time it happens when I'm surfing through my folders. Hi, I'm trying to uninstall and reinstall window defender, the only thing active in the ribbon section is Home and Help buttons however, the status dialog box states this: Last Scan: 5/20/2012 @ 6:30am (quick scan) Scan Schedule: daily around 2am (quick scan) Real-Time Protection: OFF Antispyware Version 1.129.1344.0 created on 7/09/2012 @ 7:08pm ...this morning, I tried to download a newer version onto my computer, and it indicated that I had one install already......I have search online for help in uninstalling and reinstalling the "Window Defender " Can you give me any suggestions that would help me to resolve this issue, please. I have the following server... Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard FE (version 6.0.6002 sp2 build 6002) On attempting to search for updates in Windows Update I instantly receive an error... Windows could not search for new updates An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer Errors found: 8024401F I have tried disabling AVG Antivirus, disabling Windows Firewall, deleting unfinished updates restarting services and trying again, restarting the server, installing the following update: Windows6.0-KB947821-v25-x64, and a number of other things recommended on forums. The last update installed automatically by Windows Update was on 9/2/12, KB2631813 Is there anything else I can try to fix this? or even another tool I can use to update my server? Hi there, I have a really annoying problem on all of my Win8 laptops. Whenever fast startup is enabled, NumLock on the Keyboard is disabled on the Lockscreen. When I turn off fast startup or do a reboot everything works fine. This scenario is reproducible and definitely related to the fast startup setting. The InitialKeyboardIndicators Key is set up correctly. As you can log on to Win8 with a PIN this is even more annoying. Is there any other fix for this available then disabling fast startup? Hi all, I'm having troubles with my PC (Windows 8) since the first day of 2013 when I came to work as usual, opened Winamp to play a song and and when I double-click the file the PC suddenly rebooted itself, on Log On there was no Error Notify, no dump file, no nothing and from that day I'm having reboots without a warning constantly, the next day still the same thing with winamp, after that the PC crashed when working in Outlook. Until the first reboot without a warning the system was working properly for more than 3 months (Windows 8), I've tried other RAM modules, uninstalled Norton Internet Security, checked the CPU temperature - all good around ~38, removed my USB speakers (the only USB device attached to my PC), didn't used another PSU yet but I don't think it's a power issue because it's a good PSU and no Hardware changes were made. So, the crashes can happen anytime, but if I want the PC to reboot itself it will definitely happen when using Winamp, playing a song or just maximizing the window by dragging it. I'm a advanced PC user but I never seen such a thing before. Windows has all updates installed and I installed the latest Winamp version. Need some help with this one, thank you.... Windows 7 updates continue to install automatically after I have changed Important updates settings to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". Under "Recommended Updates" I have checked off "give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates are received. I have disabled the Microsoft product updates function in that Updates window as well, the 4th option on that page. Everything was working fine until January 8th, and nothing has changed on my system. Somehow they are getting through. Thanks! View this thread

I have followed instructions for error 80070020 to start Windows in safe mode with internet access, but Windows Update won't open when clicked in the Start Search box.
