I could not find solution to the following problem: There is no Network Icon in startup toolbar, also network works, as you see now.My computer is runnig XP with all updates. Unable to install windows 7 home premium updates error code 643 (KB 954430, KB973688 & KB2538243) -
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad E530. This laptop is only brands new. KB954430, KB973688 & KB2538243 - These three updates keep giving me problems. In Windows Update, under "view update history" these keep showing up as failed. I also get the error, "Code 643". At the end of the installation it tells me three updates are failed to be installed and when I shut down to try to update, Windows always configures up to ~15%, then fails, and reverts changes, then prompts me to install updates the next time I turn my computer on. Each time, I have to re-install every update that I had installed prior to shutting down. I went through Trouble shooter - "Fix it" numerous times, Repaired Net framework profile and also followed few instructions I found from the net such as running "Reset Register Windows update Components" but nothing works so far. I even tried manually installing KB954430 but it told me "An error occurred during the installation of assembly component. 7B30B69B-OE6C-B7EO-A06B-D6B9ABF34537 HR RESULT: 0 x 80070BC9" and the installation bar seems to stop at "Publishing View this thread

How to continue upgrade after interruption (computer screen freezing)
I recently purchased the Windows 8 upgrade to my computer. I had been running the Windows 8 beta version, but my license has just expired. My original operating system was Windows Vista. Everything was going smoothly with the install until my computer froze. After rebooting, I tried clicking the Windows 8 download icon from my downloads folder. It asks for admin approval to begin and I click 'yes'. After that nothing happens. When I try clicking on the download button again, it tells me it is already running, but it doesn't show up in the task manager and nothing happens (even after several hours). Restarting again hasn't helped. How can I resolve this? View this thread

Why does windows go straight to the lock screen now instead of letting me access my bios?!
With this new update I am not able to access the bios. I am very mad about this and do not know what to do. When I search online it tells me windows 8 is going to integrate this UEFI bullshit, why would you skip the bios? Is there anyway I can fix this? And don't say, use advanced restart, it doesn't do ****. View this thread

File synchronization utility software recommendations....
My Win 8 home box has two hard drives, E (source) and F (target). I want the content of the two drives to be identical, folder by folder. If I delete a file from E: I want that file to be deleted from the "copy" on F:. Clearly this type of sync should be incremental after the first full copy. What products can you recommend? edm2 P.S. I don't want the files on F to be compressed in some zip (or the like) file that I later need to restore. I don't want F to be an "image" of E either . I want E and F them to be identical in all respects. View the full article

January updates caused the network and sharing center to no longer work
Recently after receiving a whole bunch of windows, office and other upgrades the Networking and sharing center stopped working. All I get at the bottom of the desk top screen is the wifi symbol with a red x on it. When I open the center it says I have no connections. However the computer is connected and I am on line with the web and email. So there is some sort of disconnect that has occureed. How do I go about reestablishing this function? View this thread

Driver error for my P850/040 laptop (MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ260B) driver error (upgraded to windows 8, or
Hi Guy's, Just wondering if I can get some help on this issue. I recently bought a Toshiba P850/040 laptop and upgraded to Windows 8 (Originally a Windows 7 Home Premium PC). I just recently found that I have a driver error, which is my DVD/BLU-RAY player (MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ260B). Anything out there to fix the problem? Would be the upgrade to Windows 8 that mucked it up? Thanks in advance! View the full article

Persistant Windows Update Error 80070002
I received a cast off system from my son. It had been on the shelf for about a year, and I am trying to resurrect it. Interesting and useful information: OS = Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2 (32 bit) Browser = IE 8.0.6001.19088 AV = McAfee (Scan disabled) and license expired, but firewall active Windows Defender (active) PC Tools Registry Mechanic - expired Last Installed Update = KB2478660 7/2/2011 Problem: Windows Update returns an error of 80070002 and refuses to load any updates In an attempt to resolve this I have done the following: 1. Stopped the Windows Update Service Deleted temporary update files Restarted Windows Update Service 2. Run the SFC utility "sfc /scannow" results = "There is a system repair pending which requires a reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run again" Restarting Windows displays a "Configuring Updates 3 of 3" window that never gets resolved 3. Run the System Update Readiness utility (manually) results = no errors detected 4. Run the Fixit program Running gently said that it fixed things, but running it repeatedly kept saying the same thing. Nothing changed - that I could detect. Running agressively was interesting: The Configuring Updates ... message moved from the system shutdown environment where it was harmless to the system startup environment where it caused an infinite series of re-boots. I had to revert to an earlier restore point. to be able to stop the re-boot sequence. Interestingly the "Configuring ... " message stayed on the startup environment. It just no longer forces a system restart. 5. I have tried to manually delete the pending.xml folder, but even logged in as a Administrator, I lack the permissions to delete or modify the file I would appreciate any suggestions. View this thread

Updates not installing. Error 0x80246008. Have tried Fixit, Manual change in system, rebooting, etc.
Jan 18, 2013 Windows Update does not work. I get "Error 0x80246008". HP update does not work. I get message "access denied". ---------------------------- I followed instructions on the error window that explains how to remedy the problem. I ran Fix It several times. The message said "Windows Update components must be repaired", but does not tell me how. Found how to verify Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) but COULD NOT find it on my computer. I renamed the windows update download folder. I have logged in as administrator. None of these have worked. The only changes that have been made on my computer is to uninstall and reinstall JAVA after the security alert and an update on PDF Adobe files. Everything else seems to be functioning. I have worked on this for over 8 hours now and am more confused than ever. Does anyone have any suggestions, PLEASE? View this thread

Installing Windows 8 on a Desktop Computer with Windows Vista - Keeping Both OS's
I have desktop computer with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit installed on it. I have two partitions on the HDD - one with 9 GB and one with 457 GB. I have two questions: 1. Can I also install Windows 8 on the same computer, without removing Vista - i.e. I have a choice which OS to use when I boot up? Or will installing Windows 8 overwrite Windows Vista? 2. I have MS office 2010 installed on Windows Vista. Will I be able to install and run it on Windows 8 as well? Thanks for your help. Cheers, Rajeev View this thread

fsdiag.tar.gz
I ran a file that I thought was from Frontier online backup, I know that was not smart. It made a diagnostic file, or so it said, and place on my desk top, again without thinking I tried to open it, no luck. So then I goggle it... a place called F-secure wants me to attach it and send it to their support site. In a smarter move I stop every thing and ran Norton and Microsoft Security essentials... Norton only shows tracking cookies and Microsoft Security will be a while, I am running the full scan. Does anyone know what the file is? Please go easy on me this is my first request for help K View this thread

Original copy of Windows XP now says it is a fake.
My genuine copy of Windows XP has been running for years on the same laptop. A message has now been showing for a couple of days, stating I am a victim of software counterfeiting. I have original software package, including CD and license seal with me. What should I do? My laptop and Windows XP are still good enough for my home, personal use. Is this some sort of hoax, some sort of bait for me to download and install fake updates, for example? I would appreciate suggestions and instructions on how to resolve the problem. Many thanks. 96.0GB used, but can only account for 27.3GB
Hi All: I have a new build with a fresh installation of Windows 7 Professional. Only hard drive is a 120GB SSD with a single partition, set up as C: drive My C: drive properties show 96.0GB used and 15.6GB free. This struck me as way too much used space given what I've done on the computer so far. If I go into the C: drive, unhide all files and folders, select all folders, and right-click | properties, I see total size of only 27.1GB. Any ideas where all of the other 96.0GB-27.1GB=68.9GB is hiding out on my hard drive? Thanks!DDB View the thread
