i am unable to install update Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 (KB2729453) every time i try to update with this it comes up error code 80070490 any help please View this thread

At first I received an error code 80070002 and I checked for a possible answer here on support, received a detailed process from stopping updates and deleting temporary files to restarting updates....did it all but when I do updates again the KB2310138 update has downloaded but it will not install. All .NET Framework updates are failing for me (including for 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0). All frameworks are installed, and I have tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling them). I can't apply any recent security updates for these (see long list below). Other updates such as for IE-8 and Win XP install OK. With 20 hours wasted out of my weekend -- very frustrated. As as see many, many ohters have been with .Net update problems -- there seems to be more on the web about this than any other Windows problems, and it seems most were never resolved. End of rant. What can I do to get the following KBs installed, my computer safe and (ha!) my lost time resturned by Microsoft? The common installer report is: "KBxxxxxxx does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer." Very cryptic and not at all helpful. Hello to everyone, I'm trying to upgrade a pc with windows 7 32-bit, and I want to switch to windwos 8 64-bit. Digging on internet I found that it's possibile trough custom installation (at least from xp to win7) but I'm trying to understand if it's possibile also for win8. Some months ago I've upgraded a PC to win8 and I obtained a license for 29,99$, but I didn't found how many computer I can activate with that key...if I can't use that serial, can I use the win8 upgrade assistant to migrate from win7 32-bit to win8 64-bi? with other 29,99$? Hi, I have a brand new Lenovo Ideapad and have been having issues with Sleep. If I let the laptop go to sleep or hibernate it can't wake up again. Most of the time the screen just stays black and nothing happens so the only thing I can do is hold the power button to turn off and then back on. I have Windows Vista. In as effort to download Windows Live Mail, I tried to install Windows Live Essentials, however was advised I needed to install Windows Platform Update. When I clicked on Windows Update, it produced a box which asked me to check for updates. I clicked on it and the following error message appeared &quotWindows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart the computer&quot. Original TItle: My WMP will not access CDDB for track info whilst CD ripping but I DO have an internet connection. Possible soutions please? I have WMP and XP SP3. My default browser is Firefox .I am trying to rip my CDs to WMP and, although the music is loaded fine, none of the tracks have any ID info. I have researched various forums with no joy. Most common theory is that I am not accessing the CD db because i was not connected to the internet whilst Ripping. I have a permanent Broadband connection and all other aspects of internet operate just fine,I have tried the suggested method of "find media info" but this loads an almost blank page with no indication if any search is happening and can still be blank 15 mins later. I can no longer use Windows Update to keep any of my computers up-to-date. Windows Update troubleshooter claims to have fixed the problem on the desktop, but it persists. According to what I hve been able to find on the Microsoft websites, this error indicates that the currently downloading update file terminated prior to completion. I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on my ASUS notebook, and Windows 7 Starter in my Lenovo netbook. None of them will update using Wundows update. Might this be an ISP-related issue? I can surf the web reasonably well most of the time. I am forced to use 3G or HSDPA in this locality. Is there a manual way to download and install update files? The offending program, Driver Manager, is a nasty one. It escapes system restore. Ok, use a backup from a day before it was installed, the bugger backdates the install date in the control panel. I missed that fact until after my system was restored. Also, it throws some "severe" Trojan that defender thankfully quarantined. I deleted it and I forget the name. I'm new to win 8 and the malicious software removal tool does not list win8 as supported, just Win 7 and earlier. View this thread

I downloaded WinZip utilities suite and have since deleted it, I had problems after running that program. I was having a slow computer and have cleaned the files from the drive. The sound driver has been checked..all ok from windows vista. No speaker sound or headphones, but sound card says all ok. Much thanks for your help. Mike View this thread

Original title: Can't Uninstall Java 7.11 I suspect I have a bad Java7.11 (latest version) install because games that require Java do not load using Firefox browser or IE and I get a msg. from the games to update Java. My browser plug-ins say Java is installed and enabled. My Add/Remove Programs has it listed, but when I try to uninstall the java I get a msg telling me "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" Further info says its looking for Installation package jre1.7.0_9-c.msi. I have searched my system and cannot find it anywhere. So how do I get jre1.7.0_11 uninstalled? Also, Java is not shown in my Control Panel. View this thread

Good Morning, Being brand new to Windows 8 (just bought the Asus x202e and love it so far)... windows 8 is intriguing. A big problem I have with it, when I enter the documents folder and try to create a &quotnew folder&quot it hands, the open window &quotis not responding&quot and then crashes. The only way I can create new folders is to make them on the desktop, then drag them to their destination where I wanted them originally. This computer is for school (Graduate)... this is annoying. Any possible fix suggestions? again, quick recap... creating new folders (other than on the desktop) makes windows 8 'window' hang and 'is not responding' and then crash... :( help! thanks! I dont know if this question has been asked, but here goes. I have noticed this problem since the time I installed windows8. I have connected my live account to windows8 and I use it to login. So at login time, if the internet is connected (usually wired) and i accidentally enter the wrong password, it shows the spinning 'Welcome' but gets stuck there. No combination of keys work and I never get a prompt to re-enter the password. The only way to fix this is by turning off the internet (pulling the wire ). That is when it says that the password is incorrect with the 'ok' button. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and is there is any fix to it. View the full article

I have a Dell Studio laptop running Win7 64-bit on an I3 core that had a HDD failure. I have installed a new HDD and reinstalled to the factory setup using the system recovery disks. All is well except that the Windows Update refuses to run. I get the service not running message. I have tried everything I can find on this forum with no luck. Any more ideas out there? I visited I have had my farmework worked over....I just started gettin a handle on this. after I have found the nuemerous programs acellerators web browser microsoft updates and .........etc I have been trying to get help for my issue but havent had any luck with support so I've been reasearching for about a year all the while I have been comprimised by these criminals . I have even called support websites on the phone and received remote help from the criminals holly molly. Calling them crimnals is the nicest thing I can say about this experence. Help me I have a shot at winning. What do you need to know. I get no updates checkdisc and sfc scannow dosent help I have logs and logs of data help . I Dont have a firewall but it seems as though I've got defender on now. I have a Norton program that was put on by a remote helper from one of thiose redirected websites. I have a MacBook Pro. My graduate level course work requires use of Black Board Vista 8.0. My MAC OS is &quottoo new&quot to use and is &quotunsupported&quot and getting a Snow Leopard OS, which is supported, is impossible. Apple suggested I purchase Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit) as this is the fully tested and supported OS for Blackboard Vista at my University. While updating my Win 8 I received a notification that more was available. As it turned out the upgrade cost 9.99 and turned out to be just the Media Center. I could not find any other changes in my Win 9 Start menu, and other functions all performed the same as before. Unfortunately upon clicking the app the first time, it opened and highlighted on a little window showing my videos, but I did not get a cursor to use for selecting. By wiggling around the mouse and watching very closely, I can see some items on the screen slightly lighten up, and then can double click on that space and it expands the video list, but the only place that does anything else is when I can get the mouse over the X in the top right corner. How do I get a cursor? How do I back up? Or maybe the best question is how do I navigate around? I was finally able to get one of my videos to open but could not back out. I had to shut down the computer and restart in order to get back to the location where I saw the videos list the first time. This is rather awkward situation, and I suppose this program is designed to work with a touch screen, but I do not have one, and if that is the only solution, then I really don't need this upgrade at all. Any ideas how I can get a cursor so I can make selections easy? After reading a few of the FAQ's it looks like I should have seen a "setup" page, but I did not. Can that page be recalled now, or do I have to re-download the program again? Thanks for any help and or advice you can provide. Joel View this thread

I am still getting this error message: "Failed to retrieve media information from media server", even after stopping and starting WMP12 &amp UpnP Services. I am using Windows 7 and a Panasonic Blu-Ray 320. It worked before with the same set up so I am really at a loss why I am getting this message now. The music is located on a shared network drive and WMP12 has no problem playing it. Any ideas would be great. View the thread
