I can usually figure stuff out on my own, but this one has been driving me nuts for 2 hours now as it's just one of those things that &quotshould&quot just work. I've got a Win 8 test machine here with our MSDN copy of Win 8 on it. I'm trying to &quotadd new features&quot and get it upgraded to Win 8 Pro with our MSDN Win 8 Pro Key. The Win 8 Pro key is input and accepted and the upgrade takes off. Upon 1st reboot feature installation gets to around 90%, then fails. 2nd reboot it tries again and immediately fails, then reverts the system to Win 8 Basic. Error upon logging reads: &quotFailed Adding Windows Features. Previous version of windows restored. Contact support&quot. I have scoured the net and try several solutions including: 1. Clean boot without optional apps and services: Same Results 2. Diagnostic boot: unable to verify key as needed services for wifi are disabled. (Guess I could enable them all, but was skeptical). 3. sfc /scannow. Complete with no errors found 4. Ran windows update troubleshooter: found 2 issues and resolved, but same results upon pro upgrade. 5. Applied all available updates: Same Results. 6. Event logs show no associated errors. I'd rather not spend 4 hours on the phone with MS for this issue, and would rather not have to reinstall our test machine. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you. View the full article

My HP office jet j4680 all in one has suddnely gone from devises. I did uninstall this printer and tried to reinstall with soft. And then error 1053 came up during the process of reinstalling this same printer. I went to "Service" and double click print spooler, only start botton is on and got 1053 error if I click start. I have another lap top and has worked with this printer as wireless. View the thread

Usually in the past when I have had docs that will not open, a menu appears to ask which prog I want to use to open it. This does not happen in this case. My daughter is using a new laptop which obviously has much more up to date progs installed. I cannot even use a solution that has popped up when I was wxploring ways to solve the problem, because I don't appear to have the same menu's they are referring to. View this thread

When I drag a window to reposition it, the image starts swimming in a wave-like manner. I overcame this problem on a previous occasion, but no matter what I do, I can't make the image stable. This makes it difficult to position. I am using Windows XP, sp 3. Supplementary question: I can't seem to remove delay at the onset of notes from my M-Audio Keystation 88 es. This computer ran Vista for a short while before being upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently a problem occurred which couldn't be fixed by the repair disc. I used the disc image created when I installed Windows 7 and a message illegal copy has now appeared. The registration period has expired, of course, what do I do? View the thread

Just noticed that I no longer have sound. All devices say they are working properly. Found that in audio devices, Realtek HDMI Output (ATI HDMI Audio) &quotnot plugged in&quot. Not sure what that is, but have not changed any settings or added any hardware. How do I get sound back? View this thread

Hello. I recently bought a Windows 8 Pro copy. I decided to use it because I used windows 8 pre-release and liked it. Now here is the problem. As on the pre-release version I didn't experience any crash when I installed W8 Pro I got first crash. I installed it again with. It turned on everything was fine until i reset it. It didn't start for a second time and I was forced to refresh the system and loose all my apps. After I launched fresh system it worked only for 1 day and then crashed again, now even without possibility to refresh it. As I'm trying to launch it everything I have is black screen and nothing more even if I'll wait longer than 20 minutes. I hope you'll be able to get help. Thanks from above. View the full article

Every time I try to print a picture from Windows live photo gallery or windows photo gallery or microsoft picture manager or from anywhere! a little box appears with a white X in a red circle that says "The following error occured while trying to print your picture:" and then there is no error listed! and thebox just keeps duplicating itself over and over and over and the whole thing will not let me out of it!!! I click on the X or the cancel and it just keeps beeping at me and duplicating itself over and over! i have to go to task manager to get out of it and end task Help!I'm on a Windows Vista home premium. These two updates have been installed and are successful according to my windows up date, up date run's at start up and they are downloaded each time, at shut down up dates are installed each time, up dates are ready disapears for a few seconds and then returns, this has been a problem for a long time. Hello, I'm kind of disgusted with the PDF export feature in Word 2013 Preview. When exported to PDF, a docx document (without any fancy formatting) looks different than in Word itself. It looks is as if the font size or spacing between lines was different (smaller than in Word), therefore the text is split between the pages in a different way than in Word. Both in 2007 and 2010 it works flawlessly with the same document. Has anyone faced a similar issue? View this thread

Hi when i search for updates i get this error (80073712) I also can turn on the windows security service center as it says the windows security center service couldnt be started. When i go to turn on or off windows features it doesnt display any features. and windows firewall shows it isnt on the recommended settings but when i click update your firewall settings it says error cant change some of your settings. I wouldnt like to do a clean install and my system restore for some reason only goes up to the start of this year which wouldnt solve the problem. Thanks for your help! View this thread

Well, when i move the mouse to botton left or hit the Windows Key + X combination, i get a menu with all the important items like Task Manager, Control Panel and others. However, if i click on any of these, i have like 10 seconds or more delay before i get the clicked item's window is opened. If i access any of these items from other locations, like apps search, windows get opened at once. Also, i noticed that if i right mouse click on a file to get a popup list of actions, it also take some time before i get the list to see. It is very strange, in Windows 7 I didn't have such thing. I was working on my laptop(Lenovo X201 tablet) when my windows 8 prompted that it will restart in 15 mins to install updates. I came back after an hour and the start up is stuck at &quotPlease wait&quot. It remained that way for about 12 hrs, after which I realized that something is wrong. (I am a student and this copy of windows 8 is downloaded from MSDNAA.) None of these work: 1. Refresh : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 2. System Restore: No restore points available 3. Reset : Says that an error occured (Doesnt specify what error) 4. Automatic repair : Says, Couldnt repair your PC. 5. Safe mode: Gets stuck at &quotPlease wait&quot 6. Disabling WiFi : Doesnt help 7. I scanned my HDD multiple times and it found no disk errors I then took out my laptop HDD, placed it in a external USB enclosure and connected to my desktop. I then did the following, but none of these work either: 1. Renaming the Avast antivirus folder in Program files, just in case avast was the culprit. 2. Replaced the registry files from System32/config/regbackup to config to load old registry. 3. Loaded the registry, from my laptop HDD to desktop registry, to disable the NLA service and found that it was already disabled. 4. Also renamed the fingerprint reader software folder so that the service doesnt start. I only have an ISO of the Windows 8 and my laptop doesnt have an optical drive. I prefer not to format my whole disk or buy a USB optical drive. Can anyone suggest any kind of tweak to repair my windows or in worst case reinstalling windows onto my laptop HDD while being connected through USB enclosure? View the full article

Following upgrading to Windows 8 - Office 2007 - Spell check will not work even though I change the language settings. UK version of office. When I try to speck check on UK language setting it come up with this message. (Cannot find proofing tools for English United Kingdom. If you have the proofing tools try installing them or reinstalling them. Contact your local reseller to obtain proofing tools. For more information contact the Microsoft web site.) I have tried to reinstall the software from the original installation disc. I have also changed the language settings to Uk. I am also running Access 2010 this is working fine. View this thread
