The past three days, my Security essentials will not update, the new definations, what's up with that?? View the thread

I'm working with an internet friend on an issue with her Windows 8 password expiration. She has Windows 8 and is unable to set the password expiration so it doesn't ask to change the password so often. I have Windows 8 Pro and I am able to use a couple of different methods to get into the advance User properties and reset the password expiration duration to whatever I want. She is unable to get to these options and is given an error that her version of Windows 8 does not use that snap-in. This individual is 88 years old and dearly loves her Windows 8 and sings its praises to anyone who will listen. However, she lives by herself and is the only one who ever uses her computer. All, I cannot connect to any Win8 PC in my network. The error I receive is here - I have enabled remote desktop in Windows 8. I have disabled the firewall. I have done a telnet host 3389 to verify it is listening. This is a domain administrator account that I'm using. However, for the purposes of testing I also added the account directly to the remote desktop users group on the Win8 PC. Still no luck. Anyone offer any insight? After being on the HP site for finding answers to my printer problems I noticed that on my bottom bar where the internet connections are, there is a hpsetup icon. When I go there it has a connect tab, this is concerning me. I cant seem to find anywhere to delete it. I have restored my computer and rebooted it but it still is there. I have Win 7 &amp have had MSE since this PC was new, more than a yr. I noticed the last couple of weeks that the scheduled scan has not been running, now it's not updating &amp it won't allow me to update manually. Thanks. I have run Security Essentials several times in safe mode and this is the virus that shows the most often. Security Essentials removes the virus but then the next day it comes back (shows up again). Any way to permanently remove it? View this thread

I have Windows XP and use Firefox. I went to Microsoft Word Perfect free download and clicked the button to download it but only a stupid thing called 24x7Help was installed which was a bad thing. It failed to upgrade. I read the KB and found that upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit of Windows 7 is not allowed. But not sure whether the Product Key of the Windows 7 Home Premium is either 32-bit or 64-bit. May I know how to check? There is no keyword like x64 or 64-bit on the COA label. What I am sure is the Windows 7 Starter is SP1, while the Windows 7 Home Premium has no preloaded service pack. Is the information above is enough for anyone to help me out? What other ways can I try? (I only have the Windows 7 Starter DVD, the reason why I do not have the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD is that the PC was bought from HP that came without any Windows installation disc and the recovery discs which I had created were no longer readable by the optical drive.) Can someone elaborate on the scheduled scan option for MSE? Will it scan when PC is off? What does PC not in use mean? Should I manually insert a schedule into XP's "task scheduler", and if so what file to I enter into my scheduler? Seems like MSE does not perform on schedule regardless of this checkbox status for my XP 3 Media Center Edition PC. Even partial answers are appreciated - Thanks. View this thread

i am using windows 8, and just got my computer a couple of weeks ago. no real issues at all outside of trying to navigate and learn the new windows 8 layout and paths for navigating, though that's all pretty well settled. i don't recall any real upgrades or updates. today my norton was alerting me to the need for a scan. i did it and all threats were resolved, and they were the small usual sorts. i turned on silent mode just in case. i downloaded windows movie maker as i could not locate it after trying and when i went to open it, the computer froze on a dimmed picture of my desktop wallpaper only for about three to five minutes then just came back with no opening of the software. same thing over again. so i deleted it and downloaded it again only to have the same issue. i tried downloading another piece of software thinking movie maker was no longer a part of windows, but the same thing happened. then i saw that it would take an update to install windows essentials, that apparently had it bundled. when i went to power down and restart thinking that might help i saw an option for update and restart. i did this and it's been well over two hours now with just the &quotworking&quot circle going around and around (alienware). i'm not sure if there is a big update or what, but i've never had one take so long. should i keep going, force quit or something else? any suggestions from those more experienced than me would be welcome. thanks :) View the full article

I have a 3 year old Toshiba laptop where the HDD died. I have reinstalled Windows 7 using a family members installation disk as my laptop was pre-loaded and without the disk. Saludos, ojala me puedan ayudar, tengo una laptop VAIO PCG-61A11U con windows 7, y si me produce sonido, el problema es que cada 7 u 8 segundos existe una pequeña distorsion molesta parecido al sonido que emite una radio que pierde señal o como si la bocina estuviera distorsion. y me pregunto si tiene que ver directamente con el hardware ,o el software y si puedo arreglarlo yo mismo.
