I try to get onto some of the windows apps (eg. bing, store, sports, etc.) but it says there is no internet access. If i go to the bing app, it shows I am offline but my internet is perfectly fine. I would very much like to fix this so i can start using my store and bing app. thank you. View the full article

my "turned-off updates" settings are being by-passing and I want it Perminantly Stopped - but how?
Howdy. I have Windows 8 64 on a Toshiba C855D-S5320 Laptop that is costing me money every time it updates itself and the updates are locked-out from being removed [ this causes me time and moneyto uninstall every single update and leave no chance of it being reloaded into the system by using the USBback-up with System Restore - which at lease puts everything back to the way I want it "Un-Touched":. 1) I.E. Browser options are set to "no-updates allowed"!. 2) Windows Updates, Programs, Change Settings: No Updates Selected ( not recommended ) [ but necessary ]!. 3) updates somehow turn my settings "off" and over rule "MY SETTINGS" and I'm pissed that this is taking place!. 4) and .. my question is .. .. .. A) How re you doing that & .. B) What can be done to prevent this intrusion on my privacy !?? - JW... PS .. your message boards are avoiding this subject totally - why??? View this thread

Issues In Going From Windows 8 64-bit to 32-bit
I finally got a new PC with Windows 8 64-bit pre-installed. I need to run the 32-bit version (in order to run several old 16-bit software). I purchased Windows 8 Pro which contains discs for for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I put the 32-bit versions disc into the DVD drive and was presented with the notification to put the 64-bit disc in the drive in order to continue. I was not given any other option. What can I do in order to run the 32-bit version? Thanks. View the full article

I want to reformat that C drive but rogue program won't let me.
I need to reformat my C: drive because my old computer has too much garbage. However, when I click on the File menu or the Edit menu an uninstalled program that was't completely uninstalled keeps appearing to install something. I need to go into other areas on the computer to remove this uninstalled program. Obviously there are bits and pieces of it still in the program file. Any suggestions View this thread

What are best "bang for buck" upgrades for my MSI m/brd?
Hello y'all, This is multi-question post, my apologies if it does not conform to this forum's protocol, I thought it would make more sense, than posting 3 different questions related to the same topic. Hope somebody more intelligent than I, can enlighten my electronically challenged brain! My HP p6320y desktop came w/a upgraded mother-board MSI 785GM-E51 (FX) military class II. It has DDR3 w/4 DIMM slots. According to the manual, I can use it in "dual-channel" mode. What are the pros and cons between DDR2 and DDR3, & single or dual channel? Right now, it has two 4GB memory modules installed in the 2 first slots (DIMM 1 & 2) The manual specifies to be sure not to interchange DDR2 & DDR3. Hence, if I want to max out my ram, & run it in dual channel mode. I need to fill all 4 DIMM slots w/4GB DDR3 memory modules for a total= 16GB RAM. Would running my M/board in dual channel mode w/16GB max. RAM make my system perform substantially faster/visibly better? Or could I use the cost of 2 xtra memory modules in a different way to give me a clearly observable bump in performance? While were on boosting performance, would upgrading my current CPU (quad core AM3 phenom 2.7Ghz) to something above 3.0Ghz, be worth the effort & produce a observable bump in speed? Or would doing both be over-killing the M/board's potential? Finally, the manual explains how to overclock my FSB in 3 incremental stages: 10%, 15%, 20%. Is it truly a hi-risk to ovr./clk. in comparison to the increase gained? Even on the low setting-10%? Would an extra fan counter the heat rise, thus allowing a full life span? Thanks kindly for any advice, Alan View the thread

Windows update and Windows defender problems
I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit. I just replaced my hard drive with a new one after I had a "SMART" alert telling me it was going to fail. I replaced my 1.5TB Seagate drive with a new 2.0TB Seagate drive. I used Seagates disk wizzard to clone my old drive as it was still running. Everything seemed to work fantastic until I went to manually check for updates. I got a message that says that the service is not running and to restart my computer. After several restarts and no success, I checked in services and it says it is running. I tried restarting it, no luck. I surfed the net for answers and have come up dry. I ran two fixes from microsoft that did nothing. I read another forum that said to make sure windows defender is working. I looked and sure enough it isn't. When I try to turn it on I get this error 0x8e5e0247. I don't know what to do. Please help me! View this thread

Problems accessing Windows Update
I have an issue accessing Windows Update. I searched here and online for an answer before I decided to ask. The problem is that I can't access the Windows Update feature via the Windows Update option in the programs menu. Whenever I do I don't get any errors or anything like that. An IE page gets opened up (like normal), but the only thing I get is a windows page that says "Use your Start menu to check for updates", which is what I just did. I can't get anywhere this way. I even tried running FixIt and the problem still exists. My OS info Windows XP Home Version 2002 SP 3 Edit: I'd like to add that I am starting to think that the MS site is viewing my XP PC like it is a different version of Windows. This is the address that I get from the Windows Update when I try to access it http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us Also I just tried to download Windows Live Essentials and it gave me a different version than I needed. I had to search around to find the installer for the XP version. View this thread
