I used the windows 8 install wizard and selected the &quotJust keep personal files&quot setting. After installing windows 8 I noticed my program files folder is almost completely empty, just some things that come as standard. Everything that I installed before the update had disappeared completely, but they must still be somewhere on the hard drive, because it has exactly as much free space as before. Is this normal? Hi! I have a default toshiba install of windows 8 on my system. The only uncommon program that I'm running is classic shell but I'm only using the start menu button (no windows explorer integration). Windows explorer crashes almost every day. Any idea of what I can do to fix this? i have recently built a computer running win 7 home with an MSI motherboard. the problem i am having is that on startup, the computer gets to the windows splash screen then it restarts and then i get a message saying windows did not shut down properly. I click the "start windows normally" option and then the computer starts fine and works perfectly. If i do a restart I don't have this problem. I have run memory diagnostics . Now that I used windows defender, when launching the computer, after I introduce my password appears an error message stating some file is missing in order to boot the computer. how do i manage to start without it? It turns out the file needed is part of the files cleared by windows defender when getting rid of the trojan that was blocking my computer. My Windows Update won't check for any updates due to an error in which the Windows Update Service won't start. - I tried the services.msc but wasn't clear what to do. Both my BITS and Windows Update service are on Automatic (delayed start) - I tried the Microsoft Fix It, but a system error comes up. Saying "command line argument is invalid" - I did the Update Trouble Shooting but it couldn't fix two problems. (1) potential windows update database error detected (2) it says the Windows Upgrade components is broken or damaged. - I did the sfc scannow and now problems came up. - I don't know what to do now. Understand from some forums that Windows 8 will not be having the convectional approach of coming out with SP1. How will the patches work for enterprise if there won't be a SP1 release for Windows 8? I recently had to change the hard drive to my laptop. Everything seemed to be working fine. Started to download updates from Windows Updates, and the laptop abruptly shut off, without any prompts. I restart the computer, everything seems to be working fine, but again, when I try to get updates, the laptop shuts off abruptly, with no prompts. I have run all kinds of diagnostics and restart methods, but again, the computer shuts off abruptly when I try to install any kind of update. It also shuts off when I try to run the Windows Experience Index to grade my computer's performance. Can anyone help with this please? I have Windows 7 Home Premium for x64 based systems.
