I have installed several updates on my windows 8 Pro. When I check for updates, windows reports updates installed (NEVER). Why is windows reporting I have never installed updates when I am current on my updates..? Any help would be appreciated.. View this thread

Currently have XP running on an older HP destop computer. I wish to get a (less older) Dell Inspirion desktop up &amp running. I am trying to use the same XP disc (legally purchased) to do so but cannot get past the Windows Updates stage. I'm unable to get updates. I am unable to perform any Windows updates on a Gateway desktop PC that was originally Vista, upgraded to Windows 7. I'm getting error codes 8024401C, 8024A000, and 800706BA. Already tried shutting off Windows Defender and Windows Firewall -- it helped -- sometimes listed 31 updates I need, but won't download ANY. It may help you to know a couple of things about this PC - It has an added NVidia video card - a GEForce 6200 (this has all current updates) After I installed Windows 8, I accidentally installed Norton 360 (before I realized it didn't run on Windows 8). I then uninstalled it, but who knows, maybe there are remnants of it left on the system. Also, there was an expired version of Norton on the PC when I installed Windows 8 which I also removed later. Windows 8 seems to be very unstable -- for example if I try to run Internet Explorer from the home screen from the "Charms" it ALWAYS CRASHES/RESTARTS THE PC. Yet if I run it from my old desktop -- it runs with no problem. Very strange..... I really need these Windows Updates. HELP!! View this thread

I have a three drive HP EX495, and it starting having issues finding songs the other night. Upon looking it over, the second HD was listed as missing and the third drive, which is internal, was listed as external. I turned it off, and pulled the second drive and connected it to another PC. It spins up, but when recognized comes up as unformated, but with a partition that is seen. I am not sure if it is worth any time to try to recover it at this point. I am also not sure what is at risk or lost by losing it. I did have a BDBB backup, not sure when that was last done. Questions: 1. Have I likely lost all backups? 2. Should I replace the &quotmissing&quot drive and restart and see what is left after that? 3. Any explanation as to why the third internal drive is now listed as external?
