Amazon Taking Longer To Ship To Non-Prime Customers
AWS replied to allheart55 Cindy E's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Amazon has a new warehouse is Illinois and so far I haven't been charged any taxes for my purchases. I know online retailers have to charge state tax if they have offices or do business in the state. I wonder if this is miss on their part or if they haven't actually got around to implementing it in Illinois since the warehouse just opened in November. One thing that I was not happy about is 3 years ago Amazon removed me from the affiliate program because Illinois passed a law that affiliate sales had to be taxed and the company had to sent out W-99 forms to affiliates. Amazon dropped the affiliate program in Illinois. Now that they have a presence here maybe I can get back in the program.- 5 replies

Amazon Taking Longer To Ship To Non-Prime Customers
AWS replied to allheart55 Cindy E's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
As a Prime member myself I find the shipping time to be faster than any other retailer. I often pay the extra price for next day air when ordering from Newegg or others and I find Amazon always beats them when ordered on the same day and I don't pay the extra bucks for it. Last week I ordered a mouse on Friday morning. To my surprise I had it in the afternoon. It was delivered by a guy with an Amazon van. I would guess the mouse was in the new warehouse they built a few miles from me and it was packaged and sent right away.- 5 replies

I had that happen on one of the work laptops. I did a forced reboot and when it started up it rolled back to before update with a message recent updates failed and to try again. I ran Windows update again and it worked without a problem.

Help BleepingComputer Defend Freedom of Speech
AWS replied to starbuck's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
The thing is this happens more often then people realize. Most websites will just remove the content and go on with things. There are very few site owners that can afford to fight against these types of frivolous suits. When I see something like this I always donate to the cause. I know what these things can cost to defend and applaud anyone that stands up to this. -

I will definitely donate to this. I know how it feels to be hit with something like this. -
As the article says it's the lack of good phones that is killing it. I would like to see Windows on a Samsung or HTC phone. I think if that ever happened it might make some headway.

I do this myself when watching sports. Have the iPad in my hands at home and phone at the pub.

It seems to be the other way around. In the article it sounds like Microsoft will want you to buy an upgrade to Windows 10 if you change to a new processor.

Interesting. Shows I am running Windows 10. IP is different too. In any case the browser does work and is loaded on my OSX desktop. Good to have for testing.

Just a test of IE using Azure cloud APP for OSX.

Malwarebytes releases new Anti-Ransomware Beta Software
AWS replied to starbuck's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Up until a couple days ago I didn't realize there was a version of Malwarebytes for Macs. I now have it installed as my only Malware app. I don't know if ransomware has hit OSX yet. If they make a Mac version I will give it a whirl. Better safe then sorry. -

I know that feeling well. Sad that Microsoft is doing more to push loyal long time users away then listening to them.- 5 replies

Video - Managing Microsoft Edge Favorites
AWS replied to allheart55 Cindy E's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
I wonder the same thing. I use Firefox sync to keep bookmarks synced with my phone and laptop. It works very well. I had high hopes for Edge in the beginning then found it next to impossible to organize and sync a large number of bookmarks with it.- 5 replies

After using this for a few days I have to say I don't know how I lived without a trackpad. I never really gave the trackpad on my laptop a chance. I always connected a mouse to it. Since I started using this I also started using the trackpad on my laptop. I was able to find software for Windows 10 for the trackpad that allows me to mimic most of the gestures of the Magik Trackpad 2. My hand doesn't hurt like crazy after long use and my fingers don't lock up. I really don't know why it took me so long to realize how good trackpads really are. I would never go back to a mouse now.

It gets bad when partners resort to this. Looks like you can't trust anyone now.

I just heard on the news that the worst is yet to come for you. Looks like this is going to a record breaker.

It's like us. We're like a fine wine. Older the better.

I've had this happen. In my case it was windows update still working on updates. Also a new install of Windows 10 will be slow. The OS has to cache the settings and such. The more you use it and reboot the faster it will get.
-
I said this in another thread. never has Microsoft ever forced an upgrade because you use a new generation processor. They have to be putting code in the kernel now that will stop features from working if you upgrade the CPU. This was always, as far as I know, controlled by the motherboard. Manufacturers would release a new bios with support for new processors. I have upgraded CPU many times and have never had to upgrade to a new OS at the same time. This is total BS.
