I have used the product key from my laptop's windows for my desktop and it says that it isn't genuine even though I did buy it... will I have to buy a whole new copy of windows? If not, is there any way I can transfer the legitimacy of the windows to my desktop? i.e disable, etc windows licence on my laptop and transfer the licence to my desktop? View the thread

After I dropped my dell inspiron 1545 laptop I had the hard drive replaced and the tech re-installed Windows 7 from his copy of the software, since my software had been destroyed in a house fire. Now I keep getting a prompt that says that my copy of window is counterfeit. When I went of the internet to attempt to resolve the problem I found out that I apparently need a product key number. The tech who replaced my hard drive said hat I should look at the tag on the bottom of my computer for the product key number. Microsoft help says that this is a 25 character number. I see several numbers on the tag under my computer, including the model and reference numbers and the express service code number, but none of these numbers have 25 characters. I'm lost. Where do I go from here? Am I just s.o.l. because I had to have my hard drive replaced? View this thread

I have been using Western Digital Passport Essential external hard disk which comes with a password security software. Recently I could not open the main folder after I logged on with my password. When I click on the main folder, the pointer changed to a circle and continue going round and round non-stop for a long time but could not open the main folder in which I store all my files (fotos, documents, pictures etc). I then tried to use WinXP Disk Check to scan and fix bad sectors but could not do it because once right-click on the main folder (which is also the external HD drive) the pointer immediately changed to a circle and continue to going round and round not stop. Please advise whether there is anything in WinXP that can help me open this main folder? If there is none, then I will lose all my data in this hard disk. I have contacted WD tech support but they could not help me to retrieve my data or open this main folder. They said I can send my WD hard disk back to them in exchange for a new one. However, I need to retrieve my data before I send back to them. Otherwise, all my data would be gone. They said that my data is not under their warranty. They told me that I could have my data retrieve by their agent (or client or something) at a fee and they gave me a contact number to call them. I called them but was told that I have to pay between S$800 to S$2,000 to have my data retrieve from this WD corrupted external hard disk. I am not going to pay such costly price for the data to be retrieved. If there is no way I can use my WIN XP or perhaps WIN-7 to retrieve/open this main folder, then can WIN XP format this folder so that all my data are deleted before I sent the WD hard disk to Western Digital Company for a replacement of the hard disk? I have a file that ends in a dot (.). Latter, after trying to delete it, it said that its source could not be found. Well, then I looked it up and it said its because of the dot, but I couldn't find any answers on how to fix it. Is there a way? I run Windows XP 32 bit. View this thread

For the past two weeks, every time my computer performs a Windows update, I have be unable to connect to my ISP. What I have done is go in and perform a "system restore". Once performed, my computer is able to connect to the internet. However, when the update is performed again, I am at the very same status, can't connect to the internet. Please help or assist in this matter. My ISP has gone as far as they can with this. What can be suggested? This seems like it will be a continous issue. View this thread

My windows 7, bit 32 is not updating some files. same time, it cann't run any internet explorer, such IE, google chrome, firefox, etc. After some time these explores get stucked and cann't be scrolled even up or down. I discovered this problem when I attempted to download Office 2007 and it failed. I have tried using multiple programs and scanned for viruses (tried and removed McAfee, Advanced Systemcare, CC Cleaner and Malwarebytes)-all came back clean (currently only using Windows Defender), hid Microsoft services and disabled third party services, attempted to download manually, one at a time, ran DISM Scanhealth/restorehealth, SFC/Scannow and chkdsk which all came back fine. I have used the Windows update troubleshooter and it fixed two problems, but updates still fail, I have also attempted a system refresh and system reset, but they both fail. System restore was not set up to an earlier point so I was unable to use that. I have also checked my drivers and they are showing up to date. I have a few updates that I have been able to get, but most fail (just about every update that has come out since the beginning of February). I have an ASUS Q200E, but it shows up as an X202E on the system info (same computer, different processer) and windows 8 was preinstalled. I have checked the windows update logs and have the following errors: 0x800703f1 and 0x80070422. I am also showing a system log error-Schannel fatal alert code 51 that showed up about the same time the problem started. Internet works fine and I can access all other programs with no issues. I would really appreciate any suggestions or help anyone can provide. : ) Thanks! View this thread

I did a reinstall of my Windows XP Professional system. I cannot activate it. I looked at MS Support and it shows that i should go to System Tools and select Activate Windows. That is not listed in my System tools. View this thread

In my device manager it says I need a coprocessor driver. I have a M3N78-VM Motherboard running 64 bit windows 7, I have tried the manufacture site and no results. I am not sure what the coprocessor is or does on this motherboard. If anyone can help with an answer I would greatly appreciate it. Bill View the thread

Windows 8, Office 2013 Pro Plus, Office 365 E3 plan Our company email is managed via O365 E3 plan. PC was running W7 Pro w/ Outlook 2010 1) upgraded pc to W8 2) installed O2013 Pro Plus Able to connect to mail via W8 mail app Created account using Outlook 2013 successfully. However when I try to launch Outlook I get a Windows Security pop-up box that says "Connecting to..." with a Just a moment status bar. It just sits there. I've been able to also add my personal Outlook.com account and if it is the only account in my Outlook Profile it launches correctly and works. But if I try to launch a profile with my O365 Exchange account OR try to launch a different profile even if it doesn't have my O365 Exchange account I get the same pop-up. ------------------------- Chris Ross | @cmross View this thread

I just purchased this program and downloaded it yesterday. Nearly every time I click or transfer between word and another program (I'm a teacher and I'm trying to write my lesson plans) it starts not responding. I'm generally knowledgeable about computers, but Office 2013 and Windows 8 are both pretty new to me. Prior to purchasing the student edition, I used the trial that came with the computer and it worked perfectly. View this thread

Hello everybody, I was very much surprised when my newer HP "P"series desktop w/W7 premium/64 bits had to go in for a checkup due to booting up problems, &amp they discovered &amp removed 19 infections! I have W7 SP1 Essentials, auto update &amp use common sense when surfing, which evidently isn't enough. I hate being enslaved to a annual fee for the usual anti-malware software, such as Norton or Kaspersky. I have read that Essentials does not play well with others, however I do need something extra (preferably free!) "Malawarebytes" has always proven to be useful in the past. Would it clash w/Essentials? If so, is there anything else out there that would give me a little thicker defense? Thanks kindly, ovenmaker View the thread

My firewall can't been turned back. when i press use the recomended setings an error message popps up (0x80070422). I'we runned the Microsoft security scanner. The scanner found an infected file but it coudent been removed by it. I ran a full system checkupp with norton but it coudent found it!!! I'm wondering if anyone have a tip of what I can do or have a solotion?? Please excuse my spelling I'm dyslexic. View this thread
